The Experience

Come for peace and space, a sitting room with a large open fire, plenty of chairs and sofas, antiques, books and board games. There’s a separate study with a desk for those who need to work, a snug with a cinema for escapees and a big hall with a hidden cocktail cabinet and an under stairs fridge. Something for everyone! The kitchen/dining room is well kitted out with two ovens, a separate pantry and a table which easily seats twelve plus two children. You’re left with organic milk and butter in the fridge, a sourdough loaf, drinks and mixers in the bar – you’ll even find a treat for your dog.

Bedrooms come in a mix of doubles, a twin and a bunk room with extra pull-out beds; bathrooms are brand new, the views soar in every direction over rolling pastures. Outdoors you’ll find seating areas at front and back, a games barn with table football and table tennis and seven acres to explore.

You’re in a rural spot on the outskirts of the village and five miles to a farm shop.

Reviews

This is a real escape to the country, but in style and comfort. Fantastic furnishings, beautifully decorated rooms and spacious interiors throughout the farmhouse. Idyllic setting with incredible views. Lots of space for groups. Really easy to get to the coast or city. What more could you ask for?

Location

The neighbourhood

There are lovely walks from the door both in the acres here or up in the magnificent Blackdown Hills. It's five minutes to a good farm shop (Barleymows) and seven miles to Chard for restaurants, pubs and shopping. The nearest pubs are The Cotley Inn in Wambrook or The Kings Arms in Stockland; Otter Valley kitchen is five mins for pizzas and ice cream, River Cottage and Axminster are a 20-minute drive.

Local points of interest from Anna Kenny

  • The Cotley Inn is an exceptional local with outdoor terrace and a converted horse box serving wood-fired pizzas
  • We are near the coast at Lyme Regis - after a morning of fossil hunting head to Mark Hix's Oyster and Fish House or indulge in Baboo Gelato, which is handmade locally
  • Beaminster is a perfect spot for lunch – we suggest booking Brassica, which has a delicious menu and a homewares shop across the street
  • Our meadows haven't been touched with pesticides and fertilisers; you'll see all sorts of wildflowers, butterflies and birds. Follow the footpath straight up into the Blackdown Hills AONB
  • A trip to Devon isn't complete without a shopping day in Exeter. Visit the Cathedral, have lunch at Harry's and wander down to the Quay
  • There are so many beautiful river walks nearby – you might even spot an otter

Introducing

Anna Kenny

Anna and Christian fell in love with the farmhouse during long walks in the Blackdown Hills. It had been in the same family for over 30 years and was in need of restoration. Anna has a background in interiors and is passionate about the environment, so as many architectural features as possible have been left alone during the renovation and the pastures kept for wildlife.
