The Experience
Enjoy estuary views of Teignmouth from the wrap-around balcony and front lawn. Built in 1810 as the summer home of Lord Clifford, it’s rumoured he enlarged the family fortune smuggling goods via the secret tunnel just behind the pub.
Inside, it’s cosy and eclectic with interiors leaning into its maritime history. Expect dashes of heritage green, vintage photographs, fireside chairs to sink into and rugs on polished wooden floors. Interconnecting rooms include a fire-warmed snug and a popular conservatory dining room.
Twelve nautically themed bedrooms are split between the main house and an annexe. The best have private balconies and face the estuary, all are newly freshened up and come with gleaming en suites. The balcony and lawn are sunny spots for tucking into pub classics accompanied by the sound of lapping waves and boats pootling on the water.
