The Experience
Peace and quiet reign at your 19th-century barn, where nothing but birdsong disturbs you. Set among 28 acres of conservation land, including lakes, woods and meadows, it’s perfect for a close group of friends or a couple seeking a romantic break.
You’ll feel at home in the light-filled open-plan living/kitchen/dining area, its local fabrics and art adding character and the wood-burner making everything wonderfully cosy. Bedrooms (one king size, one twin) have gorgeous pure wool Devon duvets and line-dried sheets. They share a spotless modern shower room. The kitchen is well equipped and you’re left local milk and butter, home-baked bread, eggs, wine and snacks.
Dogs are welcomed with treats, towels and an outside shower for muddy days. Wander to the orchard (help yourselves to apples in season) then down to the lakes for a glass of wine and some bird spotting, or simply light the barbecue and sizzle something delicious for supper.

We had the most wonderful stay at this exceptionally lovely cottage in Devon. Attention to detail was taken to the next level with homemade bread, scones, butter, milk and jam ready on arrival, kindling and wood all laid up for what was the cosiest stay possible. Super attention to the sustainable aspect of living and lovely walks to do both on and off the property. Thank you so much to Adrian, Elaine and Ralph for making us so very very welcome. We will be back!

We had a lovely stay at The Old Piggery. It is a comfortable, fully and attractively furnished cottage with lots of privacy. Elaine and Arnold make sure you want for nothing. The site is a great base for exploring the north coast of Devon and Cornwall

What a gem! A place of absolute peace and quiet apart from birdsong and occasional baas from Dylan and Wonky, the sheep. The Old Piggery is a perfect base from which to explore the area and magnificent coastline. The attention to detail in the cottage is fantastic and very much appreciated. Elaine and Adrian are exceptional hosts who provided us with lots of local information. Their wide ranging combined talents are impressive - from land regeneration to soap making and a great deal more in between. Our only regret was that we had to leave!

Location
The neighbourhood
28 peaceful, sustainably managed acres of woodland, meadows and lakes are yours to roam. Join the SW Coast Path (2.5 miles away) with wildly craggy and sandy stretches like Sandymouth and Northam; steeply cobbled Clovelly is six miles. Local points of interest from Elaine & Adrian Arnold
- Explore the 28 beautiful acres at Kerswell Farm. Lakes, woodland, culm meadow and a big field for letting dogs run free. The lakes are so peaceful and the wildlife is amazing! Just sit, enjoy the dragonflies over the waterlilies and feel yourself unwind.
- The variety and numbers of birds around the land is astonishing - every type of tit imaginable, finches galore, woodpeckers, waterfowl, jays and of course our resident owls never fail to entertain. Plenty of good spots to watch from.
- Some of the very best North Devon beaches are close by; spectacular Bucks Mills, Sandymouth, Welcombe Mouth, Northam Burrows and Peppercombe to name just a few. Fabulous for surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, walks, beachcombing and rock-pooling!
- Quaint Clovelly is just 10 minutes away with its steep cobbled streets leading down to the ancient harbour. Festivals like crab and lobster and herring are regularly held and it's a great place to spend a day. Visit the walled garden at Clovelly Court too.
- Spectacular gardens abound in the area, RHS Rosemoor, Docton Mill, Hartland Abbey and Marwood Hill gardens are all wonderful and full of ideas to inspire you. Discover the great variety of local cafes and pubs along the way for a sustaining break!
- The skies here are truly dark and stargazing is a real treat on a clear night. Lie back with a blanket and a warming drink and just marvel at what is above you (so romantic). Use our binoculars to bring the stars and moon even closer...

Introducing
Elaine & Adrian Arnold
Exchanging globetrotting careers in medical industries to follow their passion for rural living and conservation, the Arnolds chose the farm as their home, and project, carefully converting two detached farm buildings. They are a part of the community, a great source of local info, have won a gold Green Tourism award and been accepted to partner with the North Devon UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
We spent a week in The Old Piggery. We arrived to homemade bread, scones and jam (and other delicious things too). It’s cosy but not cramped and very comfortable. We felt very cared for and Elaine and Adrian had really thought about what makes a great holiday stay. But also with care and consideration for the environment. It is a haven and so tranquil. We have a dog and she was made very welcome. Especially by Ralph, the handsome lurcher. Walks and great pubs close by. Would we visit again? Yes, most definitely.
