The Experience

A triumph of style and design. Inspiring duo Carl and Peet have transformed an old livestock building into a sleek space with interesting stuff – much made by them – at every turn: carved wooden stools and seating, quirky light shades, an oak and perspex chandelier, striking fabrics and wall hangings. The attention to detail is impressive.

They live in the main farmhouse (pop in on Thursdays for tea, cake and a peek at their wares), and there are other buildings dotted around but the one-storey Piggery is an oasis of calm.

Take a seat in the private garden after a walk by the Avon and enjoy some home-produced apple juice overlooking the orchard. Whip up supper in the attractive kitchen, throwing open the bi-folds if it’s sunny, or firing up the wood-burner on nippy nights.

Reviews

We had such a lovely stay at The Piggery. Peet was extremely responsive and helpful before we booked and warmly welcomed us to their farm. The house is the perfect escape where you could spend days without getting in the car and there are also so many options for walks close by. We loved being able to walk from the house to the river and also watching the newly born lambs in the field next door. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend and we would love to return.

Thankyou so much

We have spent a wonderful holiday in the lovely and beautiful holiday cottage „The Piggery“. The cottage ist very tastefully furnished and a perfect place to relax and unwind. Peet and Carl are great hosts who gave us much information about what to do and to visit and made us always feel welcome! The location of the cottage is perfect to explore the coastal area, but you can also reach pretty towns and the Dartmoor is not far away. Thanks for having us! (Do not miss the delicious apple juice while staying in „The Piggery“!)

The Piggery is a very unique place in a tranquil setting. There are stunning views from the house and private patio and garden and its location is surprisingly central for exploring the many beautiful beaches and charming towns of South Devon. Dartmoor is also within very easy reach. The house has been thoughtfully designed and decorated with so much attention to detail, quality and style. A very comfortable and inviting home were there is nothing left wanting.

We had a fabulous stay at The Piggery. The property is truly gorgeous - the design is brilliant. The kitchen is so well equipped, we wanted for nothing. Having the lovely garden all to ourselves is a real plus also. Peet and her family are so hospitable and nothing is too much trouble. Would recommend to anyone

Fell in love with the Piggery - what a wonderful spot. Beautiful apartment in lovely surroundings with every need catered for. Will definitely be back!

We have just returned from a short winter break at The Piggery, and had a perfect time. The barn conversion has been done in very creative way and the whole place equipped to a high standard, with comfy beds and even in January it was very warm and cosy. Peet and Carl are really attentive hosts and we spent an interesting time looking at their creative work around their house - and in the The Piggery! Loddiswell is brilliant location for exploring the South Hams and they gave us plenty of good advice about places to eat and visit, and we had some great chats with them!

This quirky converted piggery, full of art and character, is the perfect place to unwind and get away from it all. Or explore the massive amount that the area has to offer- from beaches to yoga classes and plenty of walks. Eat well (Carl and Peet have a massive amount of recommendations) and then don't forget to explore the farm itself- a plethora of wildlife and biodiversity, along with a load of art to admire, and perhaps purchase.

Our experience at The Piggery was Inspiring&rejuvenating. My wife and I were in need of some time out and decided on a visit to the West country . Margie loves to walk and read and enjoy nature so we decided on a rural retreat. The piggery offered us all we could ask by way of remoteness and tranquility although only a few miles from Kingsbridge. There are exceptional local walks ideal for our needs, including Wild swimming in the River! All rooms are uniquely designed and crafted by owners Carl&Peet who also make apple juice from their own orchards adding to the authentic Ham farm experience.

Spent five days in this delightful cottage. Very well located for trips to Salcombe Kingsbridge and Dartmouth. All facilities were modern and very clean. Designed beautifully and located in a calm tranquil setting with river walks nearby. Kitchen was superb. The accommodation was a credit to Pete and Hahn who were very friendly and informative. Highly recommend this property to anyone wanting to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the area in a home from home

Mark, Thornton

Perfect in every way, we couldn't ask for more. Peace and tranquility. Great friendly hosts. Lovely for walks and wild life. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed. Shall return.

Janet, Burton-on-trent

The Piggery is superb. The architecture and artworks are unique. They provide detail and interest, while at the same time promoting rest and harmony. Peet and Carl are great hosts who should be proud of what they have achieved. I cannot recommend this place too much. We will be back.

Stephen, Cambridge

a very relaxing quiet place to stay , clean and comfy , the owners are lovely artists , a lovely area to sit outside and enjoy the countryside , walk over the fields and by the river for breakfast at the old mill cafe

Karen, Bristol

What a fantastic place and what charming hosts! We couldn't have had a more enjoyable stay. The Piggery is beautifully designed within its setting and has everything you could wish for. Peet and Carl bend over backwards to help and bring an extra dimension to your stay with Carl's fascinating artworks and their amazing life stories. The piggery couldn't be better located, in a gorgeous farm in a lush green valley. By being set back a little from the coast, The Piggery gives you much easier and faster access to all the favoured coastal locations in the South Hams. Thank you Peet and Carl!

My husband and I have had a wonderful holiday at The Piggery. The birdsong, the bucolic atmosphere and the fantastic location-- close to the beach and the moor, make this the ideal place for us. The kitchen has everything you need and the bed is a comfy place after a day of activity. The best part is that in good weather you can really enjoy indoor/outdoor living. The owners are a wonderful resource for local sights, restaurants and hikes. There is still so much to see and do. I can't wait to visit again.

Suzanne

We had the most wonderful stay at The Piggery, it is truly a unique property and we consider ourselves very lucky to have stayed there. Peet gave us a marvellous welcome wand although the photos of The Piggery are lovely, it is even more beautiful when you get there , we were quite blown away by it! The work and love that has gone into creating it really shows and it's rare to get anything near this standard in a rental property. The location if fab, plenty of places to visit if you can leave The Piggery for long enough!

Location

The neighbourhood

The Piggery is right in the centre of the South Hams and just a 15-minute walk from Loddiswell village where you’ll find a Spar shop, cafes, a pub, post office and garden centre. Kingsbridge, a larger town, is 3.5 miles away and has a wide range of shops, supermarkets and eateries. The dramatic scenery of Dartmoor is a 25-minute drive, as are the golden sands and independent shops of bustling, boaty Salcombe.

Local points of interest from

  • Well situated a short walk away from Loddiswell, and right in the centre of the South Hams, The Piggery offers easy access to the stunning coastline with its famous South West Coast Path, beautiful and secluded beaches or magnificent Dartmoor 15mins drive.
  • No need to drive.. walk across the farm down the magical and ancient Silveridge Lane to the peaceful River Avon. You can choose to stay on our side of the river and climb back up to us via the neighbouring Reeds Farm. A real pleasure throughout the year.
  • Across the Avon and to the right eventually takes you to Avon Mill Garden Centre with its cafe and deli. Indulge yourself in one of the best cream teas and try to walk back up the steep climb to the footpath back to The Piggery
  • We are in a perfect spot to drive to any of the wonderful beaches, coves and rugged coastline. Or within 15 mins, the magnificent expanse of Dartmoor is yours to explore. Look to the sky and choose - we can advise on some of the best spots - just ask!
  • Our Orchard is our pride and joy. All of October is taken up with harvesting, crushing, juicing and cider making .. We welcome extra hands however tiny and often end up lunching with the team in the Farmhouse kitchen.. Apple juice, cider and chutneys here.
  • The Farmhouse is open only to Piggery visitors at present with social distancing and at times by arrangement - we are happy to answer questions - you can try on a hat or two..
