The Experience
This handsome inn is a most comfortable and welcoming place to stay with fine oil paintings, antique furniture, and a buzzing atmosphere. Two bar areas downstairs are informal spaces for a morning coffee with cakes and croissants, or a pint of hand-pulled ale and a sandwich or lighter dish at lunch. The upstairs dining room is away from the hubbub and has wonderful views over the harbour. A seasonal menu includes elevated pub classics and daily specials and there’s a private dining space too.
Bedrooms are spread across the three upper floors, some with gorgeous views, all with well-dressed beds, lager, beers and snacks, along with proper coffee machines; bathrooms sparkle with Cornish Land & Water soaps and lotions. Wake to a fine breakfast, book in if you want Sunday lunch – this place is popular with locals.
Walks and hikes on Dartmoor are legendary and will blow away any cobwebs – return to a hot shower and an excellent dinner.

Location
The neighbourhood
There's so much to do here, on land and water. Hike rugged Dartmoor, say hello to the wild ponies, take to the water and sail, paddle board, catch ferries, go fishing. Trendy Totnes, a mecca for foodies, is just 12 miles for a train station and some gorgeous independent shops. There are vineyards to visit and some wonderful gardens, including Coleton Fishacre and Greenway.
