The Experience
Down through hills, wild heaths and pine forests to Lulworth. Carole and John’s home is set back from the cove in a peaceful lane; artist and garden designer, their 1980s house is a creative treasure, inside and out.
Both the bedrooms are on the ground floor and one opens to its own terrace. Wake for a generous breakfast served upstairs in the open-plan living space – or outside on balmy days. It’s a half hour drive to the Square and Compass pub in Worth Matravers for fossils, real ale and homemade pasties.
Wander round a garden full of banana trees, ferns, deep borders and a pergola with scrambling abundant grape vines. Walk to the sea in 10 minutes or climb over the cliffs to secret Mupe Cove for an early morning swim. Lulworth Cove has various good places to eat out and you can walk there in a few minutes.

What a fabulous time we enjoyed whilst staying at John and Carole’s delightful B and B. The accommodation was just what we needed, the breakfasts were varied and delicious and the locality was stunning. There was plenty to do and see without taking the car out and the walks along the South West Coastal Path were breathtaking. Both John and Carole were mines of information regarding what to do, where to go and restaurant options. We will certainly return!

Had a wonderful relaxing stay. Friendly, welcoming hosts & extremely knowledgeable about the area. The Garden Room is tastefully decorated & was spotlessly clean, as is the whole property. We appreciated this creative home, with lovely art & a beautiful garden, providing a quiet oasis. Easy to escape the crowds, whilst being within walking distance to lovely restaurants in an evening. Ideal spot to start lots of great walks, inc. the Coastal Path. Lovely choice at breakfast too (not the usual fry ups, which we enjoyed as vegetarians). Lots of touches too, Thanks, we had such a lovely stay

We loved our stay with John and Carole! Lovely rooms, delicious breakfasts, and a very warm welcome await you. Carole's beautiful artwork is the feature throughout the house, with fresh white walls and lovely furnishings to complete the picture. Lulworth Cove is a short walk away, as is the delectable Limestone restaurant. We enjoyed the Garden Suite room which opens onto John's wonderful garden patio and a most relaxing place to sit and relax. We look forward to returning soon!

Location
The neighbourhood
You can join the South West Coast Path in five minutes from the house. Lulworth is a tourist hot spot, but the secret is to wait till late afternoon, and venture to the cove when the sun is setting, and the crowds have gone, or early mornings when the fisherman return with their crab. Visit the ghost village of Tyneham (10-minute drive) – in December 1943 the occupants were given a few days’ notice to leave, when it was commandeered by the British Army. Take a picnic, walk among the ruins, read about the lives of those who lived here. Durdle Door (with its rock arch and wild seascapes) is a 40-minute walk.
Local points of interest from John & Carole Bickerton
- 100 metres from the Coast Path in Lulworth Cove so wander from our door along probably the most stunning part of South West Coastal Path and The World Heritage Jurassic Coastline!
- Walk east round Lulworth Cove, past the Jurassic Fossil Forrest along to the beautiful secluded Mupe Bay for a quick dip and then on to the lost village of Tyneham.
- Hike west over the hills to Oswalds and Man'O'War bays with stunning views of the ancient coastline to then watch the sunset through the iconic Durdle Door.
- Take the tour boat or hire Kayaks from the cove round to Durdle Door and see the Jurrasic coast from a different perspective.
- Discover The Isle of Purbeck, fireworks at Lulworth Castle, revolutions at Corfe Castle, fossils at Kimmeridge & giant sea monsters at The Etches Collection, relations at Monkey World, guns at the Tank Museum and so much more.
- After a hard day Lulworth has good pubs, restaurants, cafés and even the fisherman has a shed selling his lobsters, crabs and fish, all within 5-10 minutes walk!

Stayed a week with my husband. Perfect location for exploring the beautiful Dorset coast. A very warm welcome from John & Carole and a comfortable and relaxing time in their lovely house. Characterful and quiet house in peaceful surroundings with a beautiful garden. Carole & John are very friendly and will give any local tips and information that you need. We would be happy to return.
