The Experience
These two restored almshouses designed by the great Arts and Crafts architect William Burges sit high on a hill with sweeping views. They’re so perfectly positioned that from one you can look out over the Malverns from the kitchen windows and the Cotswolds and Severn Vale from the sitting room.
Comfy sofas and chairs, books, games and warming wood-burners will tempt you to stay indoors. There are lots of thoughtful touches – a nature book records sightings of glow-worms, woodpeckers, rabbits and partridges and a guestbook gives you a history of this fascinating area.
Up the narrow stairs, four comfortable bedrooms (two doubles, two twins that can be converted to king-size beds) continue those amazing views. Two spacious bathrooms on the ground floor have underfloor heating, walk-in showers and lovely roll-top baths, perfect for a long soak after a bracing walk.

We think you'll love
- Staying in such a tranquil, rural location but being close to Elgar country, the Welsh borders, Cheltenham and Gloucester
- The sense of the past – there’s an ancient well in the front garden and the houses are full of antiques, original art and old photos (one of the owner’s ancestors was an early amateur photographer)
- Those spectacular panoramic views
You should know
- The houses are next to a church (and a graveyard), so there are weekly services and occasionally other events such as weddings and funerals
- You can load and unload your car at the house, but will need to park a short way down the hill

Location
The neighbourhood
You're in the middle of Forthampton village, part of the historic Forthampton Estate. Tewkesbury (four miles) with its medieval abbey is worth a visit, and the Baptist church is said to be the oldest in England. For pubs try The Lower Lode Inn, The Hunters Inn, Corse Lawn House Hotel and Michelin-starred The Butcher’s Arms in Eldersfield, all within a 15-minute drive. Visit Cheltenham’s beautiful Pittville Pump Room (13 miles).
