The Experience

Hues are neutral and designed to appeal to all (whites, greys, wood, linen) but there’s a warm, honey glow of Cotswold stone within the colour scheme which links the interiors to their setting. On warm days you can open glazed doors on either side of the building to let the curtains billow and enjoy the flow of fresh air; keep them closed with the sun pouring in and you’ll feel cocooned.

Find books, magazines, two retro game sets and a telly with Netflix for long, lazy afternoons, or cook in the small but well thought-out kitchen. A breakfast hamper is waiting including farm shop eggs, locally baked sourdough and a jar of Melanie’s mum’s marmalade. A small patio with bistro furniture faces west and you’re welcome to explore the formal gardens beyond.

A 15-minute walk will take you to The Green Dragon, a good pub with real ales from local breweries and which also has a farm shop.

Reviews

I could see straight away why Melanie and Adrian chose to make Elkstone home. Tucked deep in the peace of the Cotswolds, it's still only a hop to Ciren or Cheltenham and there's a proper local pub down the road. Melanie is elegant and efficient, and has created a space of such serenity: musing on the garden views from the peaceful, minimalist surroundings of The Other House soothes the soul.

A truly lovely place to stay in a charming village and a perfect base to explore the Cotswolds. The house is comfortable and well equipped with views of the gardens and somewhere to sit outside if the sun shines. The owner Mel is extremely welcoming, providing bread, milk and the essentials when you arrive, but will leaving you in peace to enjoy your escape. We hope to return.

The Other House has been the perfect weekend retreat. The interior is tastefully decorated and the garden is a relaxing space. The property is well situated with plenty of good pubs and scenic walks nearby. We enjoyed our stay there and would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing break in the Cotswolds.

Introducing

Melanie Staley

Melanie and Adrian are busy working professionals who both have home offices on site so they're usually around to greet you. Adrian's father bought the house in the 70s and Melanie's father (an architect) designed the interiors. When their children grew up they decided to convert an old playroom into this wonderful space where they could welcome guests to share their corner of bliss.
