The Experience
An extremely elegant country-chic apartment brimming with interesting furniture and finds, a roaring wood-burner to warm your toes after a day walking or kayaking, and a king size bed to sink into. You’re in a small village with a really good pub, The Ostrich, and a Michelin star restaurant, The Whitebrook, a little further away if you fancy a treat.
The Wye Valley is at your feet for superb walking, cycling and kayaking, Offa’s Dyke path is close and you’re on the fringe of The Forest of Dean for more outdoorsy adventures. Return to sit out on your private area on the terrace and soak up the valley views over medieval Newland Church, known locally as The Cathedral of The Forest.
Pick up delicious locally sourced supplies at The Village Shop in Brockweir (15 mins) and cook a feast in your neat kitchen, play a board game, throw another log on the fire, read a book. Decide to do it all again tomorrow.

Thanks so much Neil we had an amazing time. The Forest has always been our happy place and your property was just the icing on the cake.Cathedral View is a stunning property. My husband and I couldn’t fault it. The property had everything we needed for a break away. Neil and Raymond were helpful and responsive The location is peaceful and relaxing, with great local walking and fabulous local pubs/places to eat

Location
The neighbourhood
Coleford and Clearwell (both 5 minutes) are pretty villages for a visit and a cup of coffee. Clearwell has caves, formed by underground streams, to explore. Monmouth (15 minutes) has a Waitrose, some interesting independent shops and plenty of cafés. Hire canoes or kayaks, cycle, pull on boots and walk parts of the ancient Offa's Dyke route that wends its way close to the English/Welsh border.
Local points of interest from Raymond & Neil
- The Ostrich Inn, only a 5-minute walk is a charming and ancient pub with a roaring fire and a warm welcome to all including dogs, families, cyclists, walkers. Boasting local ales, ciders and a gourmet menu it has a garden and charming views of the church.
- All Saints Church, Newland, traditionally and affectionately known as the Cathedral of the Forest, dates back to the early 1200s. A beautiful building and a peaceful spot to explore, full of interesting tombs and artefacts. Services listed on its website.
- The Village Shop Brockweir & Hewelsfield, has a wide variety of every day essentials, fresh and frozen foods and are licensed to sell alcohol and have a range of gifts available. The Cafe has indoor and outdoor seating with lovely views down the valley.
- The Forest Deli Coleford a brilliant delicatessen with lots of local and foreign cheese, charcuterie, gourmet foods, snacks and nibbles, local wines, beers, ciders, spirits. Order online and have it delivered for your stay.
- Well worth a visit the ruins of Raglan Castle the grandest ever built by a Welshman. A spectacular ruin with a moated Great Tower of 1435 that still dominates this mighty fortress-palace and it once had one of the finest Renaissance gardens in Briton.
- Woofield is on the walking map with 4 or more loop walks 4-5km, longer/shorter if you want, a brief walk on a quiet lane and you are into the hills, forests and valleys with opportunities to end up at pubs including The Boat Inn Redbrook "over in Wales".

Introducing
Raymond & Neil
Raymond and Neil are both interior designers – Neil in particular has specialised in international small luxury hotels, apartments and holiday spaces for 25 years, and his eclectic and textured style shines through in their own apartments. Wanting to leave London, it took them a long time to find the right place, and it needed a lot of love. They’re now the fourth owners of this Grade-II 1690 property and only used local tradespeople (the furthest came from Monmouth) to bring the house back to its former glory. They live on-site but you'll be given a key and left to be self-sufficient.
This apartment was absolutely stunning, superb design, spotlessly clean, great location, very quiet.Host quick to respond. Everything you could possibly need was provided. Car parking right outside and a terrace area to sit opposite the property, we had two lovely meals in the local pub, easy walk from property.
