The Experience

Embraced by rural countryside and framed by ancient oaks, this pretty farmhouse dates to the 16th century if not before. A lost-in-time aura pervades – outside are large flags, listed chimney stacks and an original cider press; inside are beams galore, low doorways and a huge inglenook fireplace in the dining room. You’ll be cosy whatever the weather, there’s a smaller fireplace in the sitting room and a wood-burner in the snug too.

The building has been added to over the years and you’ll discover generous rooms scattered upstairs and down. The vibe is country chic with a good dash of well-loved furniture, eclectic artwork, family photos, board games and children’s toys.

This charming old-school feel extends to the beamed and wallpapered bedrooms (one en suite, four share two bathrooms) and the Aga-warmed kitchen while outside is a bit wild and magical: kids will love roaming freely across flower-filled lawns, orchard and fields.

Reviews

A gloriously rambling country house that is packed with character and sits sleepily in its peaceful and private rural setting. Inside there's space to spread into, fires to light and beams to duck. Quirky touches pop up at every turn and there's much to catch the eye. It feels like a well-loved house and oozes sociability and fun. The garden is blissful and perfect for a sunset glass of wine.

Location

The neighbourhood

Walk from the door into fields and woodland, a little further are the Malvern Hills with yomps to suit all levels from challenging climbs to gentle strolls. Pretty Malvern is six miles for shops, cafés and restaurants. Worcester and Hereford are both a 20-minute drive. Try Michelin-recommended 33 The Homend in Ledbury (15 minutes) for a slap-up meal – it's tiny though so you must book ahead.

Local points of interest from The Owner

  • Walks: either walk directly from the house across endless fields and hills overlooking the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or drive 10 mins for to do one of the hikes in the Malvern Hills (e.g. Worcestershire Beacon or Tinker's Hill).
  • If fine dining is your thing try Restaurant Sow; or 33 the Homend; or the Baiting House, or the Inn at Welland; or 1919 at the Cottage in the Woods. All within a 20min drive! For less swanky options, countless rural pubs offer great food and atmosphere.
  • Love a historic house, we are spoilt for those! Visit the magnificent Eastnor Castle in Ledbury. Or, if you are a moat fanatic: Madresfield Court or Birtsmorton Court. These stately homes through significant shade on our moat with their grandeur and scale!
  • Visit Ledbury, Great Malvern or Hereford. Ledbury has small market town charm. Great Malvern is a fine example of a Victorian spa town. Hereford has a 1000 y/o cathedral and is key historic frontier and border town with Wales.
  • Since Roman times, our area has been known for its vines. Across the valley is the Frome Valley Vineyard - a perfect Herefordshire wine farm offering tours and tastings. If you want to do a tour, you can also visit others: e.g. Three Choirs and Coddington.

Introducing

The Owner

The owners are very fond of the property and have looked after it ever since they came to own it. Recently, they got a work offer overseas, where they now live, so you're completely self-sufficient. Marie the housekeeper is only five minutes away if you need anything and she leaves you local wine, bread, cheese, butter, milk, eggs and other goodies from a nearby farm shop. Lukasz will be your point of contact for booking your stay.
