The Experience
It’s not often we say this, but you might hope for a rainy day when you stay here so you can beg a tour of the beautiful antiques and artworks that fill this lovingly restored 16th-century manor house.
Pray for inclement weather so you can squirrel yourself away in the library with a good book, or get cosy in the double-height sitting room. It’s the kind of place you want to sink into and stay a while. When the sun shines, take breakfast on the south-facing terrace with views of the Malverns or wander through the four acres of gardens.
Three double bedrooms and a twin all have countryside views and are sumptuously furnished with pillowy beds, soft linens, and thick carpets. Each has a sitting area with table and chairs, sofa and easy chair and a television, plus the all-important tea and coffee set-up. The en suite bathrooms are equally indulgent, with baths, showers, Carrara marble tiles, linen bathrobes and lovely lotions.

Location
The neighbourhood
Set among fields and woodland yet only five minutes' drive from Ledbury. Stroll to the Oak Inn at Staplow (1.5 miles) for pub grub and local beers, browse Ledbury’s indie gems – Tinsmiths, Malthouse tearoom, Handley’s Organic Produce – or book a table at Michelin-starred 33 The Homend. The Malvern Hills, Forest of Dean, theatres and galleries, castles and cathedrals are all within easy reach.
Local points of interest from Kiel Shaw
- The Malvern Hills, just a 12 minute drive away are part of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, popular with walkers and offering stunning scenic views. They run north-south for about 8 mi, in between Great Malvern and the nearby village of Colwall.
- Eastnor Castle, a stunning C19th mock castle and ancestral home is well worth a visit with it's Pugin and bohemian interiors and a wide range of festivals and activities. It is also home to the Land Rover experience with over 60 mi of off-road track!
- Ledbury, our local traditional market town with many Tudor style wooden framed buildings and independent shops, plus a Michelin star restaurant! Situated just 40 minutes northwest of the Cotswolds.
- Hereford, our county city with it's beautiful cathedral is just 30 minutes' drive with a plethora of shops, restaurants and cultural activities and offering regular railway links to Birmingham and beyond.
- Wye Valley and the river Wye. Excellent canoe and kayaking activities in the summer within outstanding unspoilt countryside. Just 25 minutes' drive to the town of Ross-on-Wye and onwards to the Welsh border town of Monmouth.
- Hellens Manor near Ledbury is a fascinating historic home with some important artwork and artefacts including a panelled music room with it's English renaissance frieze and notable paintings by Gainsborough and Van Dyke.

Introducing
Kiel Shaw
Kiel and Stuart, who are semi-retired from careers as fine art and antique dealers, spent eight years restoring this historic house and gardens to its present glory. Seasoned hosts who’ve travelled widely, they know what guests need and love. Stuart, a trained chef, cooks, while Kiel looks after front of house (and might be persuaded to give you a house tour).
