The Experience

Welcome to Heron House – spruce and perfectly placed, between the high street and the sea.  Its restoration, from ‘sorry state’ to much-loved home (neat-as-a-pin but not precious) is down to Julie, who has thought in much detail about your stay. Her passion for the place, and her love of Whitstable and all it offers, will rub off on you the moment you meet her. Downstairs are two sitting rooms, one smaller (with a wood-burner), one large, and a kitchen-diner in the extension, in beautiful, bright, Victorian-modern style. Find a table topped with candles and a basket of nice things, and doors to a pretty courtyard with a garden room for dreaming on a day bed. Bedrooms on the upper floors are a mix of vintage pine pieces and Farrow & Ball colours, new rugs on stripped floors, bathrooms with thick towels and shining sash windows – only the best. For a group of friends or two families it’s perfect, and dogs are welcome, too. Wander through trendy Whitstable, it has it all: shops, galleries, restaurants, pubs, oysters, chips, beach huts by the sea, and a proper coffee shop in Tankerton called JoJo’s.

Reviews

Heron House was an ideal base for a 3 generation family holiday. It's in a great location, walking distance to the beach, shops and cafes. It is very well equipped, has lovely comfy beds and a very homely feel to it. Julie was very helpful and communication was excellent. Would definitely recommend

Heron House is a beautiful house, with everything you could wish for in a holiday home and in a great location. The house is spacious and well equipped and is just a few minutes from the beach in one direction and the high street in the other. Julie is friendly and helpful and made sure we had all we needed for a fantastic stay.

We had a lovely three nights at Heron House. We could walk to the beach in five minutes and there was plenty to do and see. Heron House is comfortable and relaxing and Julie had thought of everything to make us feel welcome. We would love to return there another year.

Tina, Chiddingfold

We had a wonderful week. Heron house has been beautifully and tastefully decorated with every fixture and fitting of very high quality. A really thoughtfully designed house, and absolutely everything we needed to run the house was provided. Whitstable centre with great restaurants, shops, and the harbour is an easy walk away, and the beach is reached in minutes. A great holiday place and a joy to return to each evening! Thank you.

Local points of interest from Julie FitzGerald Vitelli

  • We're located in the town's Conservation Area, just a short walk from the beach and high street. We offer 1 private parking space; or just leave the car at home - Whitstable Station is just 10 minutes away on foot.
  • Fancy a good rummage? Lose yourself in the many local vintage shops and monthly fairs - you're sure to find something, and all very reasonably priced.
  • Whitstable's many small galleries and exhibitions are a great way to while away an afternoon in town. Spend the day on the beach and walk for miles along the shore, or stay put in a hired hut, fire up the BBQ and watch the sun go down...
  • Hire a racket and play a game of tennis by the beach or rent a bike and ride along the Crab & Winkle Way. There's also a 9-hole golf course just a minute's walk from the back gate.
  • Take the bus into Canterbury for the day and visit the historic Cathedral and town centre. Margate's also within easy reach by car, with the wonderful Turner Gallery overlooking the sea.
  • Enjoy a fish supper at one of the many seafood outlets - be it fresh from the harbour, fried with chips to enjoy on the beach or a plate of oysters in the parlour at Wheeler's Bar.
