The Experience

As evening falls, and Easton Walled Gardens’ visitors leave, these 12 historic acres are yours. Enjoy the turf maze, the vegetable garden, the orchards, the roses, the snowdrops in February and the sweet peas in July – 50 varieties! You can even chat with the gardeners.

The old coach house, alongside the entrance, holds three new apartments upstairs. The largest is the Hay Loft (with a huge vaulted ceiling and stylish white beams) and the smallest is Coach House 2, in the middle. All are open-plan and ideal for two, with fold-away kitchenettes and beds dressed in fine linen.

On summer mornings you can bask in the sun in the stable courtyard below or get sporty on Rutland Water. Eat brilliantly at the Olive Branch in Clipsham, or at the Cholmeley Arms, a three-mile drive.

Reviews

Stylish and contemporary living in an historic and atmospheric building is how I would sum up this Loft apartment. Great care has been taken to ensure guests' comfortable stay in every way. One is made to feel very special here and it is a delight and privilege to be allowed unlimited access to the beautiful grounds too.

We were fortunate enough to find this gem! We stayed during the May bank holiday and the visit was perfection we had booked the Hayloft and the 2 coachouse lofts- we also brought our dog along. We had a lovely warm welcome and showed around the 3 beautiful property’s which are decorated to such a high standard. We also had lovely scones and jam upon our arrival! The weather was amazing so it meant we could really utilise the stunning surroundings and spend a lovely evening in in the gardens. I would highly recommend staying here and will be looking to book another stay here again soon.

Xenia, Norwich

An idyllic and peaceful retreat, beautifully designed and generously provisioned to ensure that we made the most of our visit - which was far too short. We loved the layout of the loft, the scones and jam, breakfast outside on the terrace in the sunshine, walking around the formal gardens and our evening walk through the trees after dusk ! All in all this is the perfect place to come and spend some time to enjoy the wonders of nature and the best of country hospitality.

Denise, Basingstoke

Brilliant place to stay. Luxurious. Everything you need. So good we went back again in June and tried the other apartment :)

Hilary & Tim, York

An absolutely delightful place to stay. Very conveniently situated and beautifully furnished and well equipped accommodation. The bonus was having access to the wonderful gardens - a real joy and pleasure.

Location

The neighbourhood

The gardens themselves are a major draw but also reachable within 30 minutes are stately homes such as 16th-century Burghley House and Gardens, and Belvoir Castle, home of the 11th Duke of Rutland. Antique hunters will head for the handsome market towns of Uppingham and Stamford, while Rutland Water (15 miles) is a haven for ornithologists, cyclists and sailors... and well-heeled foodies, thanks to Hambleton Hall.

Local points of interest from Sir Fred Cholmeley

  • The Loft Apartments are in Easton Walled Gardens, the gardens of the former Easton Hall which have been lovingly brought back to life by the Cholmeley family. Guests have free, unlimited access to the Gardens during their stay.
  • The Lofts are on the Easton Estate, owned by the Cholmeley Family since 1561. The Estate's pub, the Cholmeley Arms, is just over 3 miles away and serves the most delicious food.
  • The lovely market towns of Stamford and Oakham are within easy driving distance, as is Rutland Water. See Our Local Guide on our website for more things to do and see when staying with us.
  • We are an easy drive from many parts of the UK - just over 100 miles from each of London, Cheltenham, , Manchester and York
  • FD Roosevelt (32nd President of the United States) and his wife, Eleanor, spent their honeymoon at Easton Hall, as guests of the Cholmeley Family.
  • Sir Isaac Newton was born just across the road at Woolsthorpe Manor, now a National Trust property and open to the public.

Introducing

Sir Fred Cholmeley

Generations of Cholmeleys have managed The Easton Estate in Lincolnshire since 1561. Sir Fred and his wife, keen to introduce guests to the beauty and tranquillity of country life, have been running their Walled Gardens as a visitor attraction since the early 2000s. They live on The Easton Estate, and have holidayed in their Norfolk Yellow House since 2004 too.
