The Gatehouse Lodge

The Gatehouse is a lovely little cottage, direct access to the gardens being just one of its attractions. The property is very agreeably appointed with all that one needs for a relaxing and peaceful few days away. The provision of items such as bread, butter, tea, coffee as well as wine and a vase of flowers on the table makes the visitor feel very welcome.

Despite the ever-present hum of the nearby A1 whenever you step outside, you get used to that and the Gardens retain a rural tranquillity. Staying in the lodges means you can access the grounds anytime including when it is closed to the public - although our end of season stay only saw very modest footfall and quiet people at that. There is a visceral retreat-vibe if that is the kind of break you want; naturalness, a sense of being set apart from the busy world to stop and recharge, and a very moving back-story of the Gardens' restoration from dereliction.

The Gatehouse Lodge was an absolute delight; utterly charming, beautifully appointed, and cosy beyond imagination. Miniaturised perfection. The icing on the cake was the extensive P. G. Wodehouse collection in the library.

Another fabulous stay at Easton Walked Gardens which are amazing especially when you walk them on your own. We stayed this time at the Gatehouse as May Lodge was full but had a lovely time in the quirky Gatehouse. Can’t wait to return in the future as all the staff are so very helpful and kind. See you again and sorry we missed you this time Fred!
