The Experience

These beautiful old cottages (once a cartshed) stand all in a row near a duck pond and magnificent Sharrington Hall. The largest cottages are Shell, its colours a soothing blend of oyster, silver and taupe and Sky, a symphony of blues, lavenders and greys, both dog friendly. The smallest is Seal, all muted greys and driftwood touches; with a charcoal grey roll-top by a dove grey four-poster, it is very romantic. Samphire’s palette reflects Norfolk’s marshes.

Each cottage has immaculate white towels, a roll-top tub, REN lotions and a log-burner, and all (bar Samphire) a bathroom for every room. Oak or painted floorboards are topped with rugs, custom-made kitchens have large range cookers, coir carpeted stairs lead to walk-in showers and delicious crisp beds.

The setting is brilliant, half a mile from an award-winning deli and close to beaches.

Reviews

The Cartshed Cottages are a special find. They are nestled in the quiet and beautiful village of Sharrington, with convenient access to the town of Holt, and the expansive coastal villages of Blakeney and Salthouse, amongst many others! Katie and Steve are very welcoming and I have no doubt that once you've stayed here, you'll be booking a return visit!

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in Shell. Plenty of space, lovely linens, lots of logs - just lovely. Our dog was made very welcome! The kitchen is well supplied. The beds are very comfy. We loved the area - visiting Cley, Holkham and Blakeney. "Back to the Garden" is a great farm shop 5 mins away to stock up on everything you might need to eat in. Steve dropped in to welcome us when we arrived. We plan to return - would recommend.

David, Tynemouth

In the art of getting ever detail just right Seal Cottage is a masterpiece. The soothing colours, the thoughtful equipment, the sumptuous comfort, the snug warmth, the tranquil garden views... all subtly combined to evoke an instant sense of escape. Clever stuff, Steve and Katie!

Valerie, Essex

We stayed in ‘Salt’ which had a beautiful stylish interior, furnished to a high standard. The cottage was well equipped, spotlessly clean & welcoming. Hosts Steve & Katie were genuinely caring & helpful providing clear instructions / info for a smooth stay. Would definitely recommend & will return. Thank you for a great stay.

Sharon, East Sussex

A beautiful cottage. Very stylishly designed. Sophisticated and simple. Lovely having a bath in the bedroom, as it was such an attractive bedroom to look on! The bed was ample and comfortable. We were slightly surprised by lack of any private outside space but it was clear in the property description so our fault for not reading carefully! Such a peaceful location! And gorgeous to have the wonderful Hall to look at out of the window. Very nice touch leaving a bottle of fizz and big bucket of addictive local popcorn. Thank you!

Location

The neighbourhood

You're in the quiet village of Sharrington, just two minutes from the A148 and also with easy access to Blakeney, Salthouse and Weybourne. There's a farm shop and café nearby and in summer you can pick your own strawberries, or pack up a picnic and head to Holkham - just 11 miles. Restaurants, galleries and antique shops abound as well as wonderful walking and cycling - not too many hills either.

Local points of interest from Katie Bassford King

  • Coastal heaven – expanses of sandy beaches at Holkham and Brancaster, miles of marshy horizons at Blakeney and Salthouse, classic clifftop walks at Weybourne and Overstrand, all under big, big skies.
  • Shopping in the boutiques, galleries and antique shops of Holt and Burnham Market. Discover designer must-haves, locally made art and craft or vintage bargains.
  • Culture fix at historic National Trust properties, Blickling and Felbrigg Halls. Experience the Palladian splendours of stately Houghton Hall or Holkham Hall. Brush with the Royals at Sandringham.
  • Seal trips to Blakeney Point from Morston, a seafood snack, a marshland walk, then the local deli for a home-cooked meal by the log burner. Local strawberries and cream at the end of the lane!
  • Local eateries abound: farm cafes and delis, oyster caravans, seafood shacks, fish'n'chips, smokehouses, coffee vans, gourmet pubs and even a Michelin star. And a decent flat white if you know where to go!
  • Seasonal art exhibitions and installations. Artist ‘Open Studios’. Outdoor music concerts, literary and arts festivals, village fetes, pier shows …

Introducing

Katie Bassford King

Katie and Steve left London in 2010 to buy the rather run-down Hall which they then restored, along with the cartshed. Katie is an interior designer and takes delight in making the places stunning. She has a grand eye for details and the muted colours that reflect the Norfolk countryside. They like to welcome all guests and will also be around to say goodbye.
