The Experience
Drive three miles from the main road and over cattle grids through spectacular scenery to arrive at (almost) the top of the world. Terri and Matthew, who live on site, have renovated these four guest cottages themselves along the greenest lines with electricity provided by solar panels and wind turbines.
Find a welcome hamper from Tully’s of Rothbury and a bottle of champagne, an endless supply of logs for the wood-burner, books, DVDs and board games. In summer you can spill out into the enclosed garden and barbecue your supper as the sun sets. On clear nights you’ll marvel at the stars – this is a Dark Sky area.
Wonderful walks through the Coquet valley and up into the Coquetdale hills start from the door; bring binoculars if you like bird-watching, or bikes for challenging climbs. Walk three miles to Harbottle for a pint, explore Rothbury, visit Cragside or drive a bit further for the whitest, sandiest beaches with proper dunes.

Stayed at Chaffinch Cottage which was extremely comfortable and cosy to come back to after hiking on the hills around Kidlandee. We had everything we needed and would highly recommend a stay.

My sister and I have recently enjoyed a very special visit to Kidlandlee staying in Chaffinch cottage. Such a warm cozy place with lovely wood burner, comfy beds, spotlessly clean and fresh with everything one could need for a peaceful visit. The views are spectacular all around and the water is good! My family used to live and work here in the early 1960’s and I haven’t been back for 62 years! We will return again I’m sure to enjoy this very special place and the wonderful warm welcome from its owners Terri and Mathew and their great team. Thank you all so much.

Wonderful weekend for my birthday. 3 nights of pure bliss. Didn’t leave the cottage all weekend apart from taking the dogs out for a walk. Lots of great walks for the dogs and some nice little surprises with the welcome gifts. Also very accommodating with the welcome drink as we don’t drink alcohol. They sourced us an alcohol free drink which was amazing. We also took advantage of a massage in the cabin. Very cosy and probably one of the best massages I’ve had in a long time. We will definitely be back again. A nice way to get away from a busy life and relax.

Location
The neighbourhood
Kidlandlees is set in a Dark Sky area and has incredible views over the hills of Upper Coquetdale and below the Coquet Valley over to the Simonside Hills. It’s a place to get away from it all – four miles to the nearest village and 14 miles to the nearest shop in Rothbury. You’re just nine miles from the Scottish border. Apart from Matthew and Terri and guests in the other three cottages, all you will see are birds and sheep and the occasional walker.
Local points of interest from Terri & Matthew Stock

- For Harry Potter fans! Alnwick Castle is a fantastic day out for all the family. Learn about the history of Alnwick and enjoy the beautiful award-winning gardens created by The Duchess of Northumberland. Activities, concerts and magical fun!
- Barter Books is one of the biggest second-hand book stores in the country. Great for rainy days. Preserved beautifully it is located in the old Alnwick Train Station. Sit, read and relax with a cuppa in restored waiting rooms with open fires. Dogs welcome
- Holy Island and the Farne Islands are a great day out. Spot seals and puffins as you travel by boat. Visit the home of Grace Darling, Longstone Light House and find out how her amazing courage inspired the first life boats to patrol our shores.
- Alnmouth Beach is the start of amazing castle walks and the beach itself is stunning and the local’s favourite.. The Village has amazing coffee shops and dog friendly pubs. Visit the School House Gallery for famous local art work and cultural events.
- The Star Inn in Harbottle is loved by guests for its warm welcome and is at the heart of the community. You can dine in or pick up a take away on your way back to the cottage. It's dog friendly too so you can take them with you.

Introducing
Terri & Matthew Stock
Terri and Matthew moved to Kidlandlee Estate from Kent in 2017 with their children and two Labradors. Matthew had a renovation business which he has put to good use on the cottages and buildings, and Terri was a stage manager in the theatre in London for a number of years. They hope their guests enjoy the peace and tranquillity, have fun exploring the hills, valleys and beaches and totally unwind during their stay.
What a wonderful place to stay. Chaffinch cottage was the perfect base for our first time in Northumberland - spacious, beautifully furnished and most of all, the views were breathtaking. We really didn't want to leave and only which we had stayed for longer.
