The Experience

Book just one room or both (only to members of the same party) but either way you have all the privacy of self-catering and the joy of being very well looked after. You have your own sitting room with a real fire and comfy sofa and chairs, then a bright conservatory with more seating and sublime views – even when the weather isn’t being kind you’ll feel happy here.

Bedrooms are upstairs, the main with super king size bed which can be a twin, and the smaller room which can also be a super king or a twin – both have gorgeous linen, a TV, Roberts radio and super views, and they share a spacious bathroom with bath and shower over. You’ll find the means to make tea and coffee in your bedroom or you can nip down to the hidden kitchenette in the sitting room.

Breakfast is served in the conservatory – locally sourced, imaginative and big enough to fire you up for fabulous walks in rugged, wonderful countryside.

We think you'll love

  • Having the whole place to yourselves but with a magical breakfast, appearing pretty much at the time of your choice
  • Exploring north Northumberland - with spectacular walking and cycling (there's secure bike storage), white sandy beaches, romantic castles and boat trips to see puffins
  • Spending long summer days in the pretty garden with no sounds to disturb and views to the Cheviot Hills

You should know

  • The stairs up to the bedrooms are quite steep, so not best for anyone who finds stairs tricky
  • If you do bring your dog you must keep it on a lead outside when there are livestock in the field - when there are none they are free to ramble

Location

The neighbourhood

Chatton is two miles with a pub and village shop. Just down the road is the famous Chillingham Castle and its park with the wild and wonderful white cattle, an ancient breed. It's 20 to 30 minutes to the coast for those beaches and castles – Bamburgh, Warkworth and Holy Island. Alnwick is close for the castle and gardens plus good shops and restaurants. A half-hour drive north are the Scottish Borders.

Local points of interest from Mhairi Seymour

  • Almost too much to choose from as we are in the middle of Northumberland's 'Golden Triangle' as the locals call it. Chillingham Castle and its "ghosts" 1 mile. The Wild Cattle of Chillingham, the only truly wild cattle left in the world are just 1.2 miles.
  • The market town of Wooler known as 'The Gateway to The Cheviots' is 4 miles away with the Ad Gefrin distillery and Anglo Saxon museum. Look for the red squirrels on the common. The Ingram Valley Safari is excellent.
  • Bamburgh with its world-famous castle and vast beach is just 20 mins' drive. All the beaches near to us are incredible and some you can have to yourselves.
  • Alnwick is just 20 mins' drive and for the fabulous castle, home of the Percys and their awe-inspiring art collection (Harry Potter fans will know it as Hogwarts). Alnwick Gardens, Lilidorei, and the mecca for book lovers, Barter Books.
  • The Holy Island of Lindisfarne 30 mins. The causeway cut off twice a day is the only way on and off the island unless you come by boat from Seahouses via The Farne Islands and spot puffins (end March to July), dolphins, Minke whales and Orcas!
  • The Cheviot Hills and Northumberland National Park are 10 mins. The Cheviots are wild and beautiful. If you are walking the St Cuthbert's walk from Melrose to Holy Island we will pick you up and drop you off.
