The Experience
A beautiful listed 1600s Dutch brick house with the famous Crow Leasow Oak (over a thousand years old) gracing the garden and a cockerel strutting about with his hens; there’s much history here and Sally will be happy to tell you all about it over tea. If you’re a group you’ll feel very private in a different part of the house – it’s cheaper to come with friends and you may get to stay in for supper too – good English cooking with masses of vegetables.
Sally likes to make people happy, so breakfast is a convivial affair around a big table: eggs from her hens, sourdough bread baked by a friend, homemade compote, bacon and sausages from the butcher in Ludlow, Peruvian coffee, homemade marmalade and jams. She’ll make you a picnic and pack it up in a basket too.
Head out for the wonderful, untrammelled Shropshire Hills, an AONB with many footpaths. Wild swim in rivers, watch salmon leaping in spring and visit castles and churches. Ludlow is three miles (bring or hire bikes) for food markets and independent shops. Return to peaceful bedrooms with gorgeous views.

The quintessential Sawdays! Sally and Robin are such welcoming and generous hosts in their very special, and beautifully renovated, Jacobean manor house. The views are glorious in all directions, the rooms comfortable and we ate royally for breakfast and dinner with fellow guests. Highly recommended and plan to return.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're surrounded by green fields, hills, woods and rivers; from the doorstep the views are stunning. Climb Clee Hill and you'll see the Malvern Hills; join the Shropshire Way; walking and cycling routes are abundant here. The river Teme meanders along nearby and has lovely walks along its banks; Ledwyche Brook is an attractive place for a picnic. There are lots of good pubs and restaurants a five-minute drive away in and around Ludlow.
Local points of interest from Sally Kellard
- Walk, run, cycle or just sit and look. Stroll down over ancient sheep pastures to the little river. Paddle in the shallows, picnic on the bank or hike up the imposing Titterstone Clee. Sit under the boughs of a 1000 year old oak tree with tea and scones.
- Mediaeval Ludlow. A beautiful bustling town with its massive castle, host to many festivals. Great places to eat, drink and shop. Sally had her very popular shop in the middle for a little under 10 years before starting in the business of hospitality!
- With a jockey in the family and a National hunt yard as a near neighbour, a visit to Ludlow Races, a 10 minute drive away will result in great interest in your day when you return for a hearty warming supper next to the woodburner!
- South Shropshire, the mid Wales border and Herefordshire, our neighbours are such well kept secrets. More than a fair share of castles and other ancient fortresses. We are an area of very low population. Traffic jams? What is one of those?
- Unusually, dinner is available here. BYO wine with a fridge in the hallway for anything needing to be chilled. Think good home cooking with silver, fine china, crystal glasses and candles with the log burner lit on chilly eves (also lit at breakfast time.)
- One of Robin’s passions is motorsport and as a past rally champ we often host teams competing around the area. We seem to breed a lot of rally stars locally, probably due to the forest stages quite nearby. There is a rally school a short drive from us.

Introducing
Sally Kellard
Sally and Robin ran a B&B in Herefordshire before returning to their beloved Ludlow. She’d spent 12 years in the corporate world of pharmaceuticals but left to follow a dream of being her own boss; she then ran her own clothes shops and her motto is always to “treat people with respect and look after their dignity and self-esteem”. She loves sharing their home in this fabulous part of the world.
This may be the quintessential Sawday's property. Everything is just right and makes for a perfectly relaxing stay. The building is an architectural wonder, and every room is filled with interesting features and furniture. Sally makes you feel instantly at home, with tea and home-baked scones on arrival, and has paid so much attention to every detail. You are surrounded by peace and quiet, with friendly dogs and glorious countryside. The Shropshire Hills should be better known, and this is the perfect base from which to explore them.
