The Experience

Go deep into countryside with family or friends, along an avenue of sweet chestnut trees to this imposing house with beautiful formal gardens on a 470-acre estate. It’s a treat to stay here with a huge choice of rooms to spread out in: a morning room with a bay window and warming fire, a drawing room with floor-to-ceiling sash windows, the formal dining room, an upstairs conservatory room and a basement cinema room with a bar.

The kitchen has been designed with imagination and has every bell and whistle for large group catering, and you’ll find a generous welcome hamper including a bottle of gin from Wrekin Spirit, but if you’d rather relax you can hire a local chef. Bedrooms are large and swish with cashmere mattresses and fine linen – all with their own bathrooms and splendid views.

Outdoor meals on the terrace will be sublime, with sunset views of Wrekin Hill and a hot tub for dreamers.

Reviews

Our 4 generation family get together was absolutely amazing From the moment we arrived at this fabulous house we had all that we needed for every generation, including total luxury for the 'grownups'. Cinema room was a huge bonus for keeping the kids amused on a very cold weather weekend. We had the unexpected bonus of snow, so snowman built, snow angels made, warmup in the hot tub, then inside to the warm welcome of the house. John has thought of everything when renovating this stunning place and we are so grateful to have had the opportunity to stay here with our large family. Many many thanks.

We had the best time at Ellerton, from the moment we arrive until the moment we left it was such an amazing experience. The property is breathtaking. Renovated to such a high standard, you feel so lucky to get to spend a weekend in such grand surroundings... Having 6 amazing double ensuite bedrooms make it a lot easier when allocating rooms. I felt so rested after spending time here, from spending hours relaxing in the movie room, to stargazing in the hot tub. Already some of our group are looking to book a return visit... we will hopefully have the opportunity to return again.

We booked Ellerton for a 40th celebration and it was just perfect. The house is beautiful and immaculate, loads to do there, the communication and organising before-hand was great, all the staff so helpful and John, the Owner, was on-hand to help anytime we needed. We also hired the housekeeper for the day to prepare food, serve drinks and keep on top of the cleaning - she was ace and such a good add on! The whole group really loved this stay and have only great things to say about it. Thanks John and team! xx

My stay at Ellerton Hall was unforgettable. The stunning property, both inside and out, left me in awe. The outdoor space with seating areas and a jacuzzi was amazing. The owner, John, provided exceptional service and made our experience even better. The house allowed me to mentally refocus and enjoy every moment. Anna, recommended by the owners, was professional and lovely to have around. Ellerton Hall is a place of beauty and serenity, perfect for a memorable getaway. Immaculate property and comfy beds. Highly recommended

Ellerton Hall can provide a sumptuous haven for a group entertaining or holiday experience. It is very well equipped to provide comfort, convenience, luxury and fun. The location is central to many amenities, activities and entertainment opportunities. However given attributes of the house and glorious setting guests may prefer to stay here and enjoy all that it has to offer

Location

The neighbourhood

This is a deeply rural spot, just outside the village of Sambrook for a country pub serving very good beer (but no food). Fine dining can be had at Goldstone Hall, two miles away, and there are many pubs in towns close by. Ludlow is one hour for brilliant independent food shops. Ironbridge is 20 miles for a grand day out, Trentham is 19 miles, and you're just 24 miles from the Staffordshire potteries.

Local points of interest from John Gough

  • Stroll to the Wharf Tavern, a lovey location on the edge of the canal which makes a perfect setting for lunch and drinks, whilst watching the boats go by. Excellent steaks, variety of good beer and wine.
  • Walk the Wrekin; stride out on a spectacular hilltop walk and marvel at the bucolic views from an ancient fortress, which crowns some of the world’s oldest rocks.
  • Explore Ironbridge valley of invention, set within the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The the award-winning museums are within 6 square miles of the Ironbridge Gorge, widely regarded as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution.
  • Discover Trentham Gardens,a garden with peace and tranquility. The Italian Garden layout designed within the historic framework of Sir Charles Barry’s original Italianate Garden of the 19th Century .Plenty of things to do and explore for the whole family.
  • Enjoy Alderford Lake with your family and friends, climb and jump on the magnicifent aquapark,or hire a paddle board, kayak or canoe. Alderford Farm Shop offers a wide range of locally sourced produce. Relax or go wild and create new memories.
  • Plenty of countryside walks from our doorstep, mapped out by John with some restaurant and pub destinations.

Introducing

John Gough

John comes from a farming family and has lived nearby since he was a child, and used to visit the house sometimes. He has always loved it so when the opportunity to buy it came along he and his wife Lucy jumped at the chance. They spent years renovating it with consideration and care. The land around the house adjoins John's farm so the two properties are now connected again.
