The Experience
Off-piste drivers will delight in the approach – down a bumpy farm track, over an open field, across a ford and through grassy woodland. You land in a dreamy, bucolic setting with an arboretum and views over two deep water lakes (yes you may swim, yes you may use a little boat) with island, waterfalls, a small summerhouse that revolves, and a stream teeming with wildlife. A veranda and patio with table and chairs face south so you won’t miss a thing; writers, artists and those clutching a large drink may take root here on less chilly days. Your wooden cabin is comfortable and very cosy: find one fresh and airy living/dining room with a fully formed kitchen area and plenty of good seating; glass doors open out to the terrace. The main bedroom has a giant bed with a pretty rose-strewn bedspread and a cream rug; the bunk room is fine for adults or children but it’s all so romantic you may want to farm them out! Owner Victoria, who lives nearby, leaves you jam from her damsons and raspberries, local apple juice, something baked, and fresh flowers. A gorgeous little watery retreat.

The setting for this cabin is idyllic, tucked away in the woods by a lake, surrounded by beautiful countryside. It was stormy outside but the cabin is cosy - we ventured out for a cold swim (February) and to explore Ludlow and other places. Charming hosts, a wonderful location, and a comfortable, well-equipped cabin - would definitely recommend.

Stay number 7 at the Lakeside Retreat, and as always we have had an amazing time. Such a unique and private spot where you can be free to wander and enjoy the wide open space that this retreat offers. We have always been very welcomed with our dog, the space is very private and secure and we always feel confident that she is safe when she is here. We especially enjoy the access to the lakes where you can take a dip and your dog can swim. The lodge is comfortable and very warm even staying during the winter months.

Already booked again for 2022! The best staycation we’ve ever had- so peaceful and off the beaten track. We spent a lot of time just soaking up the atmosphere- daily swims in the lake and I did sunrise pilates and meditation on the veranda. Felt very zen! Property has everything you would need for a small family- cooking in and out (great fire pit and BBQ). Plus plenty of space to have your own time too. Victoria was the perfect host and was incredibly responsive if we needed her. A retreat away from the hustle and bustle, and a sanctuary within nature.

Our week staying at Lakeside Retreat was a total delight. The cabin is comfortable and well equipped, but the highlight for us were the fabulous grounds and lakes that are all so beautifully and passionately maintained. Such a peaceful and idyllic slice of heaven that is abundant with wonderful wildlife. We can’t wait to return.

After our second visit to the stunning Lakeside Retreat, we still can’t wait to come back again! There is a special magic about it, all the gorgeous little details in the cabin and all the surrounding landscape. It’s a little slice of heaven, and so rare to find a place tucked away in a setting like this with two lakes and a waterfall all to yourself. Our dogs absolutely love jumping in for a swim (and so do we!).

The Lakeside Retreat was very comfortable and equipped with everything we needed. The fresh eggs left for us on our arrival were much appreciated. We had a very peaceful, relaxing week plus wonderful sunny weather. We felt spoilt having such a lovely extensive area all to ourselves. Each morning we chose a different place to sit and have coffee. There was always something interesting to look at such as the Mallard ducks and ducklings, the shoal of fish in the lake, the pollinators on the flowers and around the insect houses. It was a real treat having a rowing boat in such a picturesque setting

Back to our tiny peace of heaven... It was great to be back again and to see the continued work to make this special place our very own nature reserve. The peace and quite makes you relax as soon as you get out of the car and the automatic lawn mower is a great touch to help ensure you don’t get to see anyone else whilst you are there. We can’t wait to return with our little fur babies who love it there!

We stayed at Lakeside Retreat for a short winter break. The cabin was absolutely brilliant with everything you could possibly need including tea coffee and cake. The heating was on when we arrived so it was nice and toasty. Lovely comfortable bed. Lots of wildlife around and great for bird watching. Really enjoyed watching the kingfisher catch his dinner and the small robin that sat outside. Lots of lovely walks to be enjoyed . We were lucky enough to meet Jamie who manages the grounds & advised us where to spot the wildlife. Can't wait to return.

We have stayed at Lakeside Retreat for a number of years now and can’t wait to return every time we leave. The love and attention given to the grounds, plants and pools around the cabin is obvious and I don’t think I could ever tire to visit. It is a great place to get away from the noise and bustle of everyday life and fabulous for my dog. This is definitely her happy place and I feel she is completely safe when we are out walking round the pools. The cabin in comfortable, lovely light and airy and completely private. I thoroughly recommend the Lakeside Retreat.

We have had a fabulous week at the at the Retreat. Idyllic paradise for us and our dogs, one is reactive, so to be able to let her run free without worrying about other dogs was priceless. Accommodation was everything we needed, although a washing machine would be good, we never use dishwasher. Would love to return.

We stayed for three days and didn’t switch the radio or tv on once, we just listened to the birds and watched the trees and the wildlife. Couldn't have asked for more, the place is a mini oasis in the middle of beautiful countryside. The cabin itself is bright, fresh and clean. Tastefully decorated and comfortably furnished, all the small details seem to be thought of, magazines, books, DVDs and games, bottle opener. Outside is beautiful with both established and new planting. It is clearly lovingly maintained without being over manicured. Even the dog seemed to have a great time.

We stayed here for a few days in May, and I can honestly say I've never been so sad to leave a holiday let! The grounds and surroundings of the lodge are incredible! We felt completely secluded and in our own little world, which was fantastic when we have a dog reactive dog. We didn't leave the holiday let for the entire stay, we just enjoyed being able to take our dog for walks in amazing grounds without the worry of other dogs.We left with one very tired dog!! The lodge itself is beautifully decorated and well equipped! Hope to return very soon!!"

Beautiful log cabin and grounds , a little difficult to find so more signage would be helpful and fence not totally secured by wire fencing by the ford so my dog was able to get onto public footpath which I was worried about as I thought the 15acres was totally secure luckily no harm done , experienced done wonderful wildlife on and around the lakes and we were very lucky with the weather , not quite as wheelchair friendly as we thought due to steps at both entrances but would visit again

As usual the cottage was great. Wonderful for the dogs to roam free with no disturbance. We toasted Marshmallows on the fire pit. Silence was a welcome break. Wonderful such bliss.

What can I say, we were looking for the perfect place to unwind and have peace and quite where we and our dogs could roam and the Lakeside Retreat didn't disappoint. The owners have clearly put a lot of time and effort into creating such a fantastic scenic environment that to be honest I feel loathed to share because we loved it so much! My only ask is that if we could have had Wi-Fi it would have rounded the whole thing off but nevertheless it didn't spoil our experience - we will be back!

Yet again, Victoria gave us a warm welcome even though she was away during our stay. Never tire of this place and its beauty- never change a thing!

We had an incredible stay at the lake side retreat! Everything was perfect. A lovely lodge in beautiful country side. Our rescue dog Jake loved it too, the peace and quite with all the space. Victoria was super helpful too, with great recommendations and easy access to local walks from the lodge. We would love to go back!
