The Experience
History buffs and nature lovers rejoice. You drive through lion-topped stone pillars to a house built in 1682 (then extended) that stands in 850 acres enfolded by the river Severn. Charming Ros and Edward are down to earth and hands-on: eggs, bacon, ham, vegetables, and logs all come from the estate.
Flop in front of a huge fire in the drawing room, homely with family antiques, big rug, magazines strewn on large tables. Peaceful bedrooms are large and light with pocket-sprung memory mattresses and snazzy upmarket bathrooms. Walk, fish, ride (there’s a livery stable on site) and lap up the views – they’re sublime.
Wake to breakfasts of freshly squeezed orange juice, Shropshire sausages, locally cured bacon, eggy bread, croissants, pains au chocolat, excellent coffee. Swim in the outdoor heated pool, wander one of the scenic routes around the river, take a picnic to its banks, spot many birds – it’s peaceful here.

After a week's stay I didn't want to leave, having become used to sleeping in a fantastically comfortable bed in the beautiful blue and white bedroom, watching spotted woodpeckers on the bird-feeders and eating delicious breakfasts and evening meals. Ros and Edward were very kind and considerate and gave my mother and myself a warm and friendly welcome.

Luxurious room with great attention to detail, lovely old house and the run of the 800 acre peaceful estate. Add to this great food served in a panelled dining room and generous and genuine hospitality for an unbeatable combination. Deeply relaxing and great value. Highly recommended.

A unique combination of outstanding food - grown mainly on the spot, historically interesting buildings and location, delightful 'blue & white' bedroom, sitting room and dining rooms and a variety of long and short walks on the Estate next to the River Severn. All is masterminded in a relaxed manner by Ros and Edward. This is a treat not to missed.

Location
The neighbourhood
On the estate find a walled garden, dovecote, ha-ha and of course the river for lovely, gentle walks. Shrewsbury is just five miles for restaurants, pubs and shops. There's a great deal going on there with a food festival in late June and a folk festival in August. Walk along the ancient walls, visit the castle, museums and art gallery. National Trust Attingham Park is 11 miles, Ludlow 34.

Introducing
Ros & Edward Tate
The estate has been in Edward's family since 1450 – if you're keen to learn more about the history then Edward or Ros will be very happy to oblige. They've made every effort to farm the estate in as sustainable a way as possible, benefitting all the wildlife. But their main aim is to give you a truly memorable stay.
Really a great place to relax and unwind, with such hospitable owners, they made us feel really welcome and a great breakfast from local suppliers that you will need to then explore the grounds to walk off the calories! Thoroughly recommended.
