The Experience

Wind through mature parkland to a striking cedar of Lebanon on the front lawn and a stately 1740s house with sustainability and conservation at the heart of everything they do. Step inside and it feels like stepping back in time with echoes of glamorous house parties.

Two spacious sitting rooms invite you to explore shelves of books and stacks of board games – a TV can be arranged. Everywhere your eyes are drawn to ornate carvings, gilt-framed family portraits, silver and ceramic objets and traditional custom-made furniture. A grand central staircase leads to three elegant bedrooms with windows framing glorious views of the picturesque landscape. You can walk through woodland and pasture then onto the 30-mile Mortimer Trail.

Arabella sets you up with homemade everything: bread, compotes, granola, apple juice, and eggs from happy hens. Take a cold dip in the original bath house fed by a natural spring, stroll into Georgian Ludlow or spend the day visiting historic Shrewsbury.

Reviews

A glorious place to wind back the clock and relax, the views alone will have your pulse slowing. The lodge is a deeply traditional and much-loved family home, and Arabella will treat you to delicious produce, much from the surrounding land. There are walks from the door – Georgian gem Ludlow is walkable – and for a truly unique experience, saunter down for a dip in crystal-clear spring water. A rare place indeed.

This is a real treasure. The house is beautiful, full of character, spacious and grand. It is filled with interesting antiques and paintings. Every window frames a gorgeous view of fields woods, cows. Arabella is a wonderful host, greeting you with offers of tea and homemade cake. Breakfast is lovely, local produce and homemade granola and jam etc. It's really a delightful place to stay. As an old an historic house it has a few signs of wear and tear. The internet signal is not good and there is no TV. But with this much beauty around why would you care.

The, Chester

A truly special place to stay. The warmth of the welcome from Arabella and Hugo was lovely. Their hospitality was really appreciated. The Lodge is stunning and very peaceful and quiet, remarkable given we were within walking distance of Ludlow. Arabella cooked for us one evening - absolutely delicious food much of which was grown at the Lodge. Breakfast was equally good. We hope to visit again to enjoy the beautiful grounds and local walks all set out in helpful handouts.

Kiran, Malta

We had a wonderful short stay with Arabella and Hugo. The house itself is beautiful and surrounded by wonderful natural beauty to explore. Arabella was a perfect host and an excellent cook, so we can thoroughly recommend the Salwey lodge as a base to explore the local area

Sarah, Edgbaston

Had a wonderful stay at The Salwey Lodge. The all food was delicious with ingredients from the garden and farm. The Lodge's lamb, gooseberry tart and walnut pesto are especially good. The location is very relaxing , the house beautiful and ideally situated for a number of circular walks. The post walk homemade cake is a welcome bonus.
