The Experience

You’re tucked away down a lane – this 500-year old house is in a bucolic setting with chickens ambling over the lawn. Debbie and Craig are dab hands at making you feel at home and are happy to chat and tell you all about the surroundings. The guest bedrooms are off in a private part of the house; two have their own sitting rooms and the romantic Aragon Suite has a splendid four-poster.

Aga breakfasts include seasonal berries from the garden, home-pressed apple juice, homemade potato scones and muffins with local bacon and sausages – and those free-ranging chooks lay the deepest yellow eggs.  Supper plates can be ordered too – village butcher ham and chicken liver pate or smoked salmon and veggy options – or a light, early supper of Craig’s homemade vegetable and lentil soup.

Reviews

A superb place to escape to from the hurly burly of city life. A truly ancient house set in peaceful surroundings and surrounded by glorious countryside to all points of the compass. And you will be thoroughly spoilt here, the breakfasts are legendary and the attention to detail in the rooms second to none. One of the best rural hideaways in the Borders and beyond.

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay with Debbie and Craig at their delightful characterful home. We stayed in the court room suite which was very comfortable and spacious, with a cozy seating area and a good sized bathroom. Debbie is a great cook- we had homemade fruit muffins and a dish of plums freshly picked from the organic garden in our room. The cooked breakfast was well cooked with eggs from the lovely chickens which are fun to watch as they wander around the garden. There was plenty of choice with cereals, freshly cooked fruits, nuts, seeds, yogurt etc. I would recommend this property.

We really enjoyed our first visit staying with Debbie &Craig for 2 nights. Loved the characterful house- we were in the spacious court yard suite with a large bedroom, a seating area with fridge& a large bathroom. We were welcomed with homemade muffins and organic plums ( from the kitchen garden) .Debbie and Craig are a good team - the breakfast was excellent with a great choice of fruits cooked ( their garden produce) and served with healthy cereals, nuts, seeds etc.Our eggs&bacon etc were very tasty. The hens were fun to watch around the garden. Highly recommend this b&b.

Just had a very lovely stay at Walford Court. Beautiful rooms, well-equipped, great breakfasts and in a locality where we could walk on the Welsh-Shropshire borders every day. Thanks very much much to Craig & Debbie. Chris

Location

The neighbourhood

Walford Court is in a hamlet on the border of Shropshire, Herefordshire and Wales. Leintwardine is a three-minute drive - a small village on the river Teme with two restaurants, the Sun Inn, a church and a school. Ludlow is eight miles away - a beautiful Georgian town on top of a hill with medieval castle, great food shops, markets and the famous Feathers Hotel. You can reach Hay-on-Wye in under an hour.

Local points of interest from Debbie & Craig Fraser

  • Cross the little wooden bridge over the stream and take in the stunning views by walking through our orchard, fields and forest.
  • Visit historic Ludlow with its famous castle, market square and fine dining.
  • Take a glass of local ale in the Sun Inn, a famous listed parlour pub located in nearby historic roman village of Leintwardine
  • Enjoy the many National Trust properties located in this unspoilt area.
  • Immerse yourself in Tudor history. The house is over 500 years old, and has a medieval freeze celebrating the marriage of Catherine of Aragon and Prince Arthur.
  • Stand on our ancient motte, once a neolithic burial mound, where Walford Castle stood in the 11th century.

Introducing

Debbie & Craig Fraser

Debbie and Craig have been happily running their B&B for over 12 years. They're brilliant hosts - very welcoming and easy to be with; Craig has a wry Scottish sense of humour and a twinkle in his eye. Oliver the old Labrador tends to quietly snooze in their part of the house.
