The Experience
Sleep well in comfortable rooms full of period features – the beams and doors were probably taken from the castle in the village and there’s a deep well connected to an underground Priest Hole below the dining table to marvel at – there is much history here.
Food is fresh, locally sourced or from the veg patch – breakfast in the summer room or on the patio next to the wildflowers; choose a full English or croissants and seasonal fruits served with homemade jams and granola.
Head out for walks from the doorstep through fields and along the river. There are plenty of cycle paths to explore: pick up route 24 straight through Longleat – you may even see giraffes – or set off for Bath. Frome is only five minutes away with its independent shops, great restaurants and lively markets. Head back to enjoy a sundowner with castle views or cosy up in the snug by the log-burner. Jayne is a qualified Qi gong instructor (gentle mind body breath movements) so a private session can be arranged in the house or your garden.

Location
The neighbourhood
The house is right in the village of Nunney – it’s a friendly village with lots of events throughout the year. Pop down the road to the pub for a pint or The Moat and Turret for a café snack; walk to Nunney Castle to learn more about the history of the area and explore the ruins. Hauser & Wirth, Bruton, is 30 minutes in the car - go for amazing gardens, world-class exhibitions and good food. There are great walks all around; the Deverills (15 minutes) offers panoramic views.
Local points of interest from Jayne James
- Our village has a ruined castle from the 15th century. It has a variety of events throughout the year from an Easter bonnet parade to carols in the castle. We also have in August a village fayre which includes entertainment food and 100 craft stalls
- Our farmhouse is full of character including a 15 metre well which links to a secret priest hole you can view. We also have doors taken from the castle in the 15th century.
- We have a walled garden where you can sit and relax and take in the castle view. We have dug up grape shot ( stone balls fired from a musket ) which came from the battle in which the castle fell to Cromwell's army.
- You're surrounded by beautiful quiet walks and cycle routes with many good places to stop for refreshment. We are both keen walkers and cyclist so can advise you on routes.
- Frome is 10 minutes by car with many events throughout the year including the famous Frome independent market which happens each month. There are great independent shops and restaurants there. Come and visit Katherine hill for quirky vintage clothing .
- We have many tourist attractions close by including Longleat house and Stourhead national trust. Also nearby are the spectacular gardens and art gallery of Hauser and Wirth .

Introducing
Jayne James
Jayne and Andrew (along with Fred the Labrador and Mike the cat) moved to Cherry Tree Farm in 2015 for a lifestyle change – Jayne worked for the NHS and as a senior lecturer at UWE, Andrew is a project manager. It took over three and a half years to renovate Cherry Tree Farm and they’ve worked carefully to retain many of the original period features. They’re both passionate about sustainability and history – as well as knowing a lot about area.
We had a wonderful time at Cherry Tree Farm. Jayne and Andrew were great hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed our time in their beautifully restored home. Thanks for a fantastic stay! Miranda, Jamie, and Leo.
