The Experience

Broadway is a super base with two good pubs, The Bell does excellent wood-fired pizzas and The Five Dials is popular for Sunday lunch. Rolling countryside abounds, pull on boots and walk from the door, the walking is gentle but the scenery is gorgeous. The market town of Ilminster is two miles down the road (five minutes by car) for independent shops and cafés. The Ilminster Arts Centre hosts workshops, music events and exhibitions, and does a home-cooked soup and sandwich type lunch.

Inside, the cottage is warm and inviting with a smart electric Aga for rustling up meals. Downstairs is the open-plan kitchen/diner/living area and upstairs you’ll find two bedrooms (one double, one twin/double) sharing a snazzy shower room. Outside is a very sweet, private courtyard garden, perfect for morning coffee or sundowners.

Next door is a cottage for two, handy if you are six, and the owners’ home; they’re around if you need any help or advice.

Reviews

Beautiful village, stunning cottage. Courtyard Cottage - beautifully presented luxury accommodation of the very, very highest standard. A simply stunning place to stay and relax. Thanks to Glenda - a charming host, plus two very friendly dogs

John, london

Highly recommend this cottage! The photos don’t do it justice. The cottage is beautifully decorated, with fresh flowers throughout. The enclosed courtyard is ideal if you are bringing a pet. Great pubs just minutes away. Will definitely come back!

Laura, London

This is a beautiful cottage. From the photos, we had formed high expectations and the tasteful interior design, alongside quality fixtures and fittings, certainly met them. It really is as good as it looks! There are 2 very good pubs nearby and a small village store within easy walking distance. Ilminster is only a short drive away for anything else you might need in the way of shopping. Overall, we can highly recommend Courtyard Cottage and hope to return one day. Pam

If you are looking for a stunning cottage that has everything you need, then this is the place for you. The locality of cafes, dog friendly pubs and scenic walks in the country was amazing and all within walking distance. The cottage is characterful but modern and spacious and the host is top class. A nice quiet location for all that you that want to relax like we did. We will definitely be booking again.

Connie, Bristol

This beautifully appointed 17th-century Hamstone and flint cottage is decorated and presented to the highest of standards. It ticks so many boxes; peaceful, foodie destinations on your doorstep, countryside walks, the list is endless. I could quite happily stay here and not go out as it's so delightful!

Location

The neighbourhood

You're in the centre of quiet Broadway which has a village shop and two pubs. Pop to Ilminster for supplies, there's a weekly farmer's market on Thursdays, and plenty of shops. There are heaps of pretty villages to visit, try Hinton St George and stop for lunch at the Lord Poulett. If you fancy coming without the car, trains arrive at Crewkerne and Taunton - both only 15 minutes to Broadway.

Local points of interest from Glenda & David Isaac

  • Somerset is renowned for its traditional pubs. Within a quick easy stroll are two such establishments! Warm and welcoming, the faint whiff of smoke from log fire. Beer on draft, good food and a dog at your feet. What could be better!
  • We are in the peaceful heart of rural Somerset, in the centre of a peaceful village, local circular walks from your doorstep. Weave around country lanes and bridal paths, taking in wonderful rural scenery and wildlife. Then come back and relax in comfort.
  • We are 35mins from the Jurassic South Coast. Long pebbled beaches, safe swimming and old fishing communities make this a wonderful day out. Try your hand at fossil hunting, mackerel fishing, or enjoy a crab sandwich on the beach, this is the place to do it
  • Perry's Cider Mill is a real treat and only a short drive to Dowlish Wake, enjoy a Perrys Cider and a ploughmans in the Cider Mill tearooms. Julian Temperley’s cider and cider brandy distillery over at Burrow Hill is another super treat for cider fans.
  • The National Trust opens houses and gardens nearby; Barrington Court, Montacute House, Lytes Cary Manor and Tintinhull House to name but a few. Other lovely gardens to visit are at Hestercombe, Forde Abbey and East Lambrook Manor.
  • We are close to many historic market towns and villages. The nearby town of Ilminster bristles with independent food specialists, antique shops, art galleries and craft boutiques clustered around the market square.

Introducing

Glenda & David Isaac

Glenda and David bought Stepps House and the two adjoining cottages in 2019. Both cottages were practically derelict and they have spent a couple of years restoring them and sympathetically bringing them back to life; and at the same time adding all the mod cons to make your holiday relaxing and easy. Glenda grew up here and after living in Exmoor for 30 years has returned to be close to family.
