The Experience

Sink into a bath of bubbles in front of a wall-sized window up on the mezzanine floor – views soar over the harbour and out to sea, sunsets will be magnificent. It’s a tiny space, best for those who long to be close, but incredibly well designed so that everything fits in and it’s all about the views so the feel is light and airy. The kitchen is to the side of the living room/bedroom and has all you need for holiday cooking. If you prefer, head out to the restaurant for breakfast, lunch, suppers of local produce, even tea with home-baked cakes.

The walls tell the story of the town’s industrial past, through photographs and pictures of its important maritime history, the successful paper making factory (which closed in 2015), right up to the modern hand-built kitchen furniture and the the asymmetrical lattice table. There is a private terrace area too.

Head out for wonderful walks, return to organic sheets on a comfy bed.

This place is one of our Sawday’s Community Champions – not-for-profit organisations receiving subsidised Sawday’s membership as recognition for their support of causes and communities.

Location

The neighbourhood

East Quay has created a stir in the architectural world, being described as the 'most exciting building in the UK'. Little Watchet, erstwhile quite sleepy, has been noted. There's also a good deli (Sam's), pubs, a gin bar, crabbing on the harbour and Torre Cider Farm which has a kitchen serving good pizzas a 10-minute drive away. Walking and cycling are superb in the Park or on the Quantocks.

Local points of interest from Rebecca Tomkinson

  • Watchet is a lively coastal town full of history, beautiful quirky buildings, and stunning scenery. From markets and music festivals to steam trains, carnivals, and fireworks, Watchet is brimming with exciting events all year round!
  • East Quay is an arts centre of galleries, local artists' studios, an ethical shop, and cafe/restaurant. We frequently host a variety of events and workshops, so please make sure to check the 'What's On' page of our website!
  • East Quay is only a ten-minute walk from two different beaches, one of which is perfect for rock pooling and fossil hunting. (Visitors often unearth some of the earliest fossil ammonites recorded in Britain!)
