The Experience

The building, which was once a bank, has high ceilings and light floods in from tall windows downstairs, original art hangs on the walls, the furniture is cool mid-century, the atmosphere is calm but purposeful, the team dedicated to feeding you very well indeed. Seasonal menus change regularly and they are refreshingly small – just really good ingredients from the South West, cooked with love by head chef Tom.

Bedrooms on the first floor (and two up in the eaves) are restful, uncluttered and attractive, gorgeous soaps and lotions from Haeckels scent the bathrooms and you’ll find a treat or two along with an honesty mini bar. Wake to a three-course breakfast, unusual and tasty with freshly baked bread. Take a newspaper to the charming sitting room afterwards or head out to explore the village.

In summer the outdoor terrace is the place to sit with a glass of something from the nourishing drinks list, pondering the menu. Nice.

Reviews

We had the pleasure of staying at Holm for my partner's birthday. The staff were incredibly friendly & contributed to our very enjoyable stay. For dinner, we had the Chef's Menu & I can honestly say our food surpassed all expectations, boasting exceptional flavours & presentation. The ambience was delightfully relaxed. Our room was impeccably clean & provided utmost comfort - perfect as we rolled into bed after an incredible meal! Breakfast the next morning was also delicious. A first-class establishment on all levels - great people, great place, great food. I would highly recommend booking.

The ultimate foodie getaway! Driven by the seasons, there is no doubt that the frequently changing menus will be enjoyed by all. The beautifully designed bedrooms above the restaurant are carefully curated and have a contemporary feel. This is one you'll want to return to!

Local points of interest from Matt Chorlton

  • Take a stroll out from Holm, across the fields to the Grade I listed East Lambrook Manor Gardens. The iconic and quintessentially English cottage garden created by the celebrated 20th-century plantswoman and gardening writer Margery Fish.
  • Ham Hill, home to the beautiful Ham Stone that is the foundation of many local buildings, is a great area for a good walk. Take in the beautiful views over the valley and finish with a pint in the Prince of Wales.
  • A hop over the A303 will take you to Pip's Railway Carriage & The Trading Post, a lovely cafe and farm shop with inventive cookery, a great selection of home baked treats, and shelves stocked with all manner of deli goodies.
  • Kingsbury Episcopi is home to our friends Burrow Hill Cider. & The Somerset Cider Brandy Company. Pop over for a tour of their beautiful orchards and learn more about how Julian Temperley became the owner of Britain's first Cider distilling license.
  • Head over to Crewkerne early on a Saturday morning and you'll find a queue of hungry customers waiting to buy some beautiful baked goods from The Barley Sugar Bakehouse. Be quick though as they'll always sell out!
  • The beautiful Jurassic Coast is a short 40 minute drive straight South of us. Head to Seatown to walk up Golden Cap, take in the views to Portland & beyond a dip in the sea, and enjoy the lovely hospitality offered by The Anchor Inn.
