The Experience
This is a big, friendly cottage (which used to be the village pub) and it lends itself to family or friend get-togethers perfectly. There’s plenty of space both indoors and out, and walks or cycles are outstanding in this conservation area, surrounded by woodland and fields. You’ll find plenty of footpaths around Great Glemham and a hand-drawn map of walks around the village.
Buy sourdough bread from Pump Street Bakery, award-winning sausages, bacon and black pudding from the butchers in Aldeburgh, and eat supper or have a barbecue in the pretty garden in summer. The sitting room has an open fire, and beautiful fabrics and wallpaper designed by Sasha’s mum, Anna French.
You’re just a 15-minute drive from the sea, so pack up picnics and all the beachy stuff you need for a good old English day at the seaside – treat yourself to a pint in the village pub when you get home.

The welcome we received from Sasha was warm and friendly. The room was very smart and comfortable and the breakfast was outstanding. We came back late in the evening after a Concert at the nearby Snape Maltings and enjoyed some wine in front of a log fire in the sitting room, with glasses she had left out especially for us. An excellent place to stay.

We had a splendid half term at the Crown House. Lovely base just to hang out. Or to make quick trips to the sea or nearby forests. Or if you are so inclined to one of the many sites in the area. We enjoyed that but mostly just being the the well equipped house by the first. The Crown House is comfortable. But it is an cottage so tall people (like my husband) beware! There are beans eager to make your acquisition. Even if Sasha couldn’t run the full B&B (due to Covid restrictions) she made our stay a smooth, easy and thus happy one. Thank you for a thoroughly lovely stay.

My old friends and I met up at Sasha's lovely, comfortable house in Suffolk for a long, birthday weekend. The house was perfect for our small group, who love to cook together, chat and spend time catching up. The house is quirky, engaging in its ancient low-ceilingedness, and there is everything necessary for a home from home stay. It's also brilliantly located for Snape, or Aldeburgh with the Suffolk Coasts and Heaths AONB stretching north and south. Sasha was so helpful, with great recommendations for local restaurants, and very welcoming. A lovely stay.

Crown House is a lovely and interesting old house from which to explore the delights of east Suffolk. It's thoughtfully furnished and decorated, with magnificent trees - including quince and walnut. A calm, restful place after the busy streets of Southwold and Aldeburgh.

Location
The neighbourhood
It's quiet here, with not much to do in the village except go to the pub. But the walking is superb and Sasha has done much research about the area, so do ask. She can tell you about circular walks with a good pub to stop off at for lunch or a tea room for cake, long tiring hikes or gentle strolls. You can join the Suffolk Coastal Path for breath-taking walks and views.
Local points of interest from Sasha French
- Just 1.5 miles off the A12 makes Crown House an easy base from which to explore all that the Suffolk Coast has to offer. Aldeburgh 15 mins, Southwold 30 mins, Orford 20 mins, Snape maltings 10 mins, Framlingham & Saxmundham 7 mins
- The timber framed house, originally thatched, dates back to the late 1500s when it was the pub before being converted into 3 labourers cottages in the 17thC.
- Framlingham is a very attractive medieval market town with a castle where Mary Tudor was pronounced queen. It also boasts The Station Hotel, which is in my opinion, the best place to eat
- Very quiet, rural location, in picturesque village surrounded by fields. You can walk 1.5 miles across the fields to CAMRA award winning best pub in East Anglia The Sweffling White Horse - pub with no bar! Open Friday - Monday
- BBC2 film location for "Detectorists"
- Places to visit - Parham Airfield Museum, Sutton Hoo, Orford Ness and The Long shop Museum in Leiston is a must

Introducing
Sasha French
Sasha trained in and produced opera. She lived in London for years, retreating to Suffolk for weekends. She began to absolutely hate going back to London on Sunday nights, so she bought Crown House and settled here permanently some years ago. Her plan was always to run a special place and her inspiration was staying with other Sawday's owners. She adores meeting people, cooking breakfasts (especially poached eggs...) and helping people fall in love with her beautiful part of the country.
A wonderful stay at the Crown House for Christmas! The house was perfect for this festive time spent with family - so comfortable and cosy... Sasha decorated a beautiful tree and the fire set the scene beautifully. We love this part of Suffolk - so atmospheric at this time of year. Sasha was a wonderful host - so helpful (very grateful for lending us a few things we forgot!). We would love to return someday...perhaps in Spring/Summer to enjoy a different season. Thank you!
