The Experience
A trio of brothers with a string of successful London pubs have stepped in to rescue a much-loved village establishment in the South Downs. With their family farm and vineyard close by, they were thrilled to open their first rural outpost back home in West Sussex.
Gregory runs the farm and vineyard supplying the kitchen, Richard leads the restaurant, and Oliver, as executive chef, creates the menus. Together, they’ve struck a fine balance, keeping a relaxed village pub feel while focusing on local, seasonal dining. Eat in the fire-warmed bar, the buzzy dining room or out on the terrace on sun-warmed days.
Eleven characterful bedrooms are tucked under beams upstairs and down, with fresh flowers, country florals and good art. Some have in-room baths and window seats for reading or admiring the countryside views. Come to walk the South Downs Way, explore gardens and country houses, or visit the brothers’ vineyard for a tour and tasting.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're in the heart of a picture-book Sussex village - pretty brick and flint thatched cottages line a square of tiny lanes that lead to St Michael's Church where Arthur Rackham, illustrator of Peter Pan, is buried. Journey through ancient Weald woodland and rolling farmland of the South Downs Way by horse, foot or cycle. Visit Chichester, Goodwood, Petworth House and more.
