The Experience

The estuary is navigable for a few hours on either side of high tide so bring paddle boards, kayaks or a row boat (there is safe storage) and launch off on an adventure. At low tide the waders and protected birds gather to feed – join the tow path to get even nearer.

Admire parquet floors, a lovely sunny sitting room upstairs (with another cosier one downstairs), supremely comfortable bedrooms and a superb kitchen. It’s light, bright, beautifully thought-out and spacious with watery views from upstairs. There are also books on design, art by local artists, telescope and binoculars and old French posters and prints collected by the family. You are left a welcome hamper of local produce from the farm shop at Goodwood with all you’ll need for your first breakfast.

Beach towels are waiting, as are crabbing buckets and lines. On rainy days you’ll feel happy to be in such a gorgeous space, and you’re only 30 paces from the 16th-century Crown & Anchor.

Our second visit to HVH , this time to celebrate my mum’s 80th, and we all had a wonderful time. The location of the house is superb with amazing views over the water and a great pub close by too. The attention to detail and the level of comfort in the house is first class. We visited Arundel Castle gardens which are well worth a visit , and had a great walk at West Wittering beach . We hope to be back 😀

Jennifer, Maidstone

Second stay at this lovely house. Everything perfect. Highly recommend.

Jill, CANTERBURY

A simply wonderful house in a stunning location. Beautifully and tastefully decorated throughout and equipped to a very high standard. Very spacious with lovely bedrooms and bathrooms. The well equipped kitchen and dining room with sliding doors onto the garden has everything an enthusiastic cook needs and provides a brilliant way to join inside and outside. When the weather isn’t so good the downstairs snug offers cosy armchairs and a roaring fire. Upstairs the large and bright lounge area has magnificent views allowing you to watch sunsets over Dell Quay.

David, Bromley

A lovely week of waterside muddy walks, skylarks and peaceful evenings with sofa views of harbour and ocassional sunsets. Bus into Chichester for Pallant House exhibition, and car to RSPB Pagham Harbour etc. Alison is a welcoming, thoughtful and generous host who provides a well equipped and comfortable temporary " home".

Helen, Bristol

60th Birthday celebrated with husband, family & 2 dogs. The house was lovely and the interior design beautiful. Alison provided us with some walks locally and places to visit. Being January, the dog walks were muddy but the heated outside wash room/bathroom had dog shampoo & towels to get them clean and dry. We cooked Sunday roast and the kitchen had everything we needed, its very well equipped. The pub across the road was dog friendly and welcoming where we had a lunch and a lovely evening meal Saturday. All in all a great weekend and would love to return when the weather is warmer.

Patricia, Maidstone

We had a wonderful stay just after New Year in this beautiful house which we have also had the pleasure of staying in a couple of times before. Alison could not be more helpful with information prior to your stay, her welcome at the house and her invaluable recommendations of local places. This time, Harbour View House was beautifully decorated for Christmas and as before a generous welcome pack was left for us. We all love the furnishings, the views from the upstairs living room and the walks from the door. We are already planning our next visit. HVH is highly recommended!

A lovely return stay at Harbour View House this time over the New Year. A perfect place to see in 2024. There was a lovely tree and other tasteful decorative touches which made the house feel very Christmassy. The house is so well equipped with everything you need and more to cook a celebratory meal. I’d definitely recommend it as a fab place to stay over the Christmas period. And if you don’t fancy cooking the pub is within touching distance!

Jackie, Reigate

We came to HVH to celebrate my special birthday with our friends, arriving to find the house beautifully decorated for Christmas with fairy lights around the dining table and a wonderful lit tree in the upstairs living room. Logs had been left for the indoor and outdoor open fires. This was our second visit to HVH and the attention to detail was amazing as always. The weather was atrocious during our stay but we were all able to use the wonderful space to enjoy special times with special friends. The Crown and Anchor and Thyme & Chilli were also fabulous.

Jaye and Peter, Warwick

I have visited HVH on 3 occasions with my daughters and their families. The house is really well equipped and we have enjoyed all our visits. There are great walks and good biking (bring your own or hire). Also a great local pub.

Brian, Warwick

Second time at Harbour View House. We had a perfect few days celebrating a family birthday. The house is in an idyllic location. It’s beautifully decorated, superbly equipped and the outdoor space is perfect, very private and great for entertaining. Alison has really thought of everything….it’s probably the best equipped holiday place I’ve ever stayed in. She is the perfect host - so accommodating - nothing is too much trouble. I absolutely love this place. Will definitely return.

Jackie, Reigate

Harbour View House is a delightful home from home, quirky yet comfortable and very well equipped. We recommend it highly, in fact we can't wait to return for our fourth visit! Dell Quay and all it has to offer can only be described as good for the soul. Thanks Alison!

Jo, Berkshire

We spent a very enjoyable and relaxing long weekend at Harbour View House. The house is beautifully furnished and thoughtfully equipped, with lovely gardens in an outstanding location. Lots of places of interest within easy reach and excellent dog walking. We'd come again.

Alex, LONDON

A stunning property in a truly beautiful location and a fantastic host who was super helpful! Offering suggestions of things to do and see locally all dog/child and adult friendly. We had the best stay! 2 adults 3 dogs and 3 kids (12, 7 & 3). Honestly every detail was carefully and lovingly thought about a wonderful visit to a glorious part of the country. The house was just amazing! I will definitely be going back! Faultless 😊

Jacqui, Hove

A far too short stay at Harbour View House. Firstly, the house is brilliantly equipped…especially the kitchen and everything was spotlessly clean. The location, immediately opposite the Crown & Anchor pub (great food and a lovely terrace overlooking the harbour), was also a huge plus. The house is lovely - beautifully decorated and comfortable. For any length stay in the area…I would highly recommend it and we are planning to return with a few friends in tow.

Andrew, Wantage

This is truly the best holiday house we've stayed in. Alison is a wonderful host and has catered for every need possible. The house is beautiful, in an incredible location, and it is equipped so well that you could just move in and live there!

Kathryn, Milton Keynes

This was our second visit to this lovely property and it was just as wonderful this time round! Alison is a superb host and there is just about everything you can think of for a comfortable stay. We made good use of the extremely well equipped kitchen and had great fun cooking as a family. We had great weather and the position of the house is ideal for dog walking and visiting lovely beaches. There is loads to do in the area and it is well worth a visit.

Yvonne, Maidstone

We had a splendid holiday at Harbour View House and have booked a return visit. HVH is beautiful and extremely well equipped. The Crown and Anchor opposite has an excellent menu, with a good selection of local fish. Best of all is Alison's ability to be the perfect host. Highly recommended.

Alison and Roger, Bristol

This was our second stay at Harbour View House. After our first time there, we could not believe it could have gotten any better but we were wrong!! The garden was superb, just extending the style and elegance of the house and the little touches (luxury starter pack, all the essentials you could imagine, information from the hosts l) just added to the special time we had there as a family ranging from 23 to 83.

Sharmaine, Esher

This is the 4th time I have stayed at HVH. It has always been a fabulous experience This time was with friends for the Coronation weekend. As always Alison really “pushed the boat out” with the wonderful decorations in the house and garden. The attention to detail was second to none and everything was in place for a perfect long weekend. The dogs were also made most welcome and although I took my own dog paraphernalia there were plenty of dog towels and shampoos available to wash the mud off (Saturday was rather wet!). We really love HVH and the lovely views from the sitting room upstairs.

Jill, Esher

We were lucky enough to enjoy the most incredible stay at this beautiful home. Every single tiny detail has been thought of, it’s a home from home, but the home of dreams! The house is spacious with different seating areas so if you’re a large group, there’s plenty of space to relax. We loved our lazy mornings drinking coffee around the kitchen table. We saw Alison on our last day and she asked what we’d done during our stay. Embarrassingly we had to admit that the furthest we’d gone was to the Crown and Anchor, the pub opposite. We loved the house so much we wanted to enjoy every moment there

Location

The neighbourhood

This is a very special place and right next to the Dell Quay Sailing Club. Keen walkers will want to go all the way to West Wittering on the coast path for lunch at Billy's on the Beach and then wander home again - about a three-hour trip in total. A shorter walk will take you to Chichester. There are ancient country pubs, Bosham is close and the station is a five-minute drive for trains to London.

Local points of interest from Alison & Michael Moss

  • Harbour View House is on the shores of Chichester harbour - 60 paces away. Views over the water are constantly changing. No two days are the same. Watch the wonderful sunsets with glass in hand at the pub 30 paces away or from your armchair.
  • With a rich Roman heritage Chichester has so much to show you. The impressive Cathedral spire will grab your attention whilst you take an elevated stroll around the city on walls built by the Romans. Stop for coffee or browse the local farmers market.
  • For the greatest celebration of motorsport and car culture Goodwood is close by. The Festival of Speed and Revival Meeting never fail to deliver incredible experiences. Horse racing at stunning Goodwood racecourse is not to be missed.
  • Walk along the harbourside tow path directly from the house. Stop off at Chichester Marina, The Ship Inn or the Quarterdeck for snacks . For a longer walk, the restaurant Billy’s on the Beach never fails to provide a reason to keep up the pace!
  • Cycle Salterns Way straight from the house, discover the beauty of the South Downs Way. Explore historic Bosham and grab a treat from Daves ice cream van. Watch Bosham Car Wash 2 on YouTube before you go. Time and tide really don’t wait!
  • Chichester Harbour is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Definitely to be admired but do get out there, get on it or in it! Try sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing, swimming, surfing at The Witterings or just simply walk around it
