The Experience

You arrive down a wooded lane reputed to be one of the oldest in England: gates open to the mansion house and garden with swathes of lawn and frothy flower beds; your lovely cottage-on-one-floor is perched high beside your own private terrace with views across the Weald to the South Downs. It really is the dearest space for lovers, with a hugely inviting bed, a wood-burning stove and a round table in the window for meals looking over the garden.

Owner Jackie, who lives in the big house, leaves you a cream tea on arrival day. The kitchen is well stocked with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, spices, teas and fresh coffee, homemade marmalade and jam. Glyndebourne picnics are also one of her specialities – she’ll even send you off with chairs and a picnic table. Stride out to the village, Rotherfield, for pubs, café and village shop.

Reviews

Jacky and Paul are very welcoming and will do everything they can to make your stay the best experience ever! It's a lovely, romantic cottage with a gorgeous bed and stunning views. It's stylishly decorated and everything is top quality, from the pans and sharp knives to the bed linen and soft towels. There are pretty fresh flowers everywhere. The food sounds amazing too.

We just back from a very relaxing 3 night break at the cottage. You can relax here so easily, the most we did was keep the log burner going ! We Came home after Christmas floating & calm! Jackie has thought of everything here & presented it very well ! The views are amazing, wether watching rabbits out the window or the horizontal rain comes across the hills ! If you want tranquillity, star gazing, home comforts & fresh air, this place is for you! Thank you Jackie & Paul for making us welcome

Kay

After travelling for 6 and a half weeks the Cottage in the Garden was the perfect place to relax before heading back to Australia. Jackie and Paul made us feel welcome from the first moment, as did the yummy afternoon tea waiting for us in the cosy, but light and airy, Cottage. The Cottage had everything we needed for our stay and the tasteful, quality fittings - especially the fabulous little wood burner - added to our comfort. The Cottage is well located to explore the area with many beautiful NT gardens and homes in easy driving distance. Perfect for either a short break or a longer stay.

Kate

The photos promised an idyllic hideaway and the reality did not disappoint. What can be better than a birdsong accompaniment to breakfast whilst overlooking the Downs? Set in stunning surroundings, the "Cottage in the Garden" really is the perfect place to unwind. Jackie and Paul could not have been more helpful; the perfect hosts. There is plenty in the surrounding area so we eagerly anticipate a return visit!

Sally

We stayed last January for 3 nights and had a lovely time. We arrived late but got taken up to the cottage and shown everything, we arrived to a dressed table and dinner ready in the oven ( we pre booked this) Such a lovely place and lovely owners, So much so we are due to go back January 2015 :) Such a romantic getaway, so much so my Fiancé proposed to me on the first night

Location

The neighbourhood

You're in the narrow country lanes of the East Sussex countryside, tucked away in the corner of the owners' extensive and pretty garden, completely separate from the main house. There are NT gardens and houses to visit, Crowborough is 10 minutes by car, shopping in the Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells (15 mins) is fun and the whole area is an antique hunters paradise. Glyndebourne is 20-25 mins.

Introducing

Jacqueline Evill

Jackie and Paul set about the renovation of this cottage with one aim in mind. They wanted to make it the most welcoming, private, romantic and beautiful sanctuary that they could imagine. They've thought of everything to make your stay very special: rugs for stargazing, jugs of fresh garden flowers, help and advice if you do want to venture out.
