The Experience
You arrive down a wooded lane reputed to be one of the oldest in England: gates open to the mansion house and garden with swathes of lawn and frothy flower beds; your lovely cottage-on-one-floor is perched high beside your own private terrace with views across the Weald to the South Downs. It really is the dearest space for lovers, with a hugely inviting bed, a wood-burning stove and a round table in the window for meals looking over the garden.
Owner Jackie, who lives in the big house, leaves you a cream tea on arrival day. The kitchen is well stocked with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, spices, teas and fresh coffee, homemade marmalade and jam. Glyndebourne picnics are also one of her specialities – she’ll even send you off with chairs and a picnic table. Stride out to the village, Rotherfield, for pubs, café and village shop.

We have only good things to say about our stay with Jackie and Paul at the "Cottage in the Garden". The surrounding countryside and views from the cottage terrace are breathtaking. the cottage is situated inside a tasteful garden a mixture of wildflowers and cultivated. The cottage is 2 rooms + fully equipped kitchen, and is comfortable and tastefully furnished. It's a quaint old cottage which adds to the charm. Jackie and Paul were lovely hosts, helpful when needed but the cottage is separated from the main house by the garden with its own garden terrace gives you total privacy when you want.

We had a wonderful time at the cottage. It is a beautyful and peaceful place to stay. The cottage is ideally located to explore the Kent and Sussex countryside. Glyndebourne is just around the corner for an exquisite opera experience. Jackie and Paul are the most caring hosts we ever met. They made our stay perfect. Thank you again Wiebke and Timo

I booked the Cottage in the Garden as part of my husband’s 60th birthday celebrations. The idea of staying in a cosy cottage in the midst of a stunning garden and wildflower meadow was too good an opportunity to miss. We weren’t disappointed and the Sawday description was accurate - the views and location are wonderful, so peaceful. The owners Jackie and Paul have thought of everything to make their guest’s stay very comfortable and their attention to detail is second to none. We felt totally relaxed the moment we arrived. A cream tea awaited us with homemade scones. Everything was perfect!

Location
The neighbourhood
You're in the narrow country lanes of the East Sussex countryside, tucked away in the corner of the owners' extensive and pretty garden, completely separate from the main house. There are NT gardens and houses to visit, Crowborough is 10 minutes by car, shopping in the Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells (15 mins) is fun and the whole area is an antique hunters paradise. Glyndebourne is 20-25 mins.

Introducing
Jacqueline Evill
Jackie and Paul set about the renovation of this cottage with one aim in mind. They wanted to make it the most welcoming, private, romantic and beautiful sanctuary that they could imagine. They've thought of everything to make your stay very special: rugs for stargazing, jugs of fresh garden flowers, help and advice if you do want to venture out.
There is something very magical about this place. It is a delightful cottage with very good views over the Sussex landscape. It is very well appointed and tastefully decorated. There are some excellent walks close by and pubs which provide good food. Jackie and Paul are wonderful hosts with a wide variety of interests. I was unwell when went there but left feeling much better and refreshed. We will always carry very fond memories of the ‘Cottage in the Garden’.
