The Experience

Your apartment is above a lovely big gallery/hall – with a piano and a wood-burning stove. The building was once the workshop of artist Sir Frank Brangwyn and is in the heart of a thriving village with an arty heritage. Shirley uses the hall as an exhibition space sometimes and you can wander down the road to the award-winning Museum of Art + Craft, and visit the many craft makers, jewellers and artists who work in the village.

Find a quiet, comfy bedroom with garden views and a cosy sitting room with a kitchen area. Shirley leaves you homemade cakes, chocolates and breakfast things, and each morning brings over a tray of fruits, yogurt, local artisan bread and eggs for you to cook how you wish.  Order the papers, borrow books and maps, sip your coffee and plan your day out.

The South Downs National Park is your stomping ground; Brighton, Lewes and Glyndebourne are all close by. Return to rustle up supper, or stroll down the road to one of the friendly pubs.

Reviews

Shirley has really thought about, and continues to think about, what makes a B&B special and that ensures that this happens. The freedom of the fresh part of the breakfast arriving outside the door is lovely and unusual. The stylish decor makes the rooms a pleasure to be in and the views of the garden are lovely. You are also welcome to stroll or sit in the garden if you want to. The bed is a massive 6-foot wide with a lovely, floaty duvet and plump pillows. It might be difficult to get out of!

A very comfortable, clean , characterful and welcoming place . two nice pubs to eat in 3 minutes walk away in a small and lovely vIllage. Couldn’t be easier. Shirley made us feel at home and breakfasts are excellent. Thank you.

Sarah, Canterbury

Jointure Studios is divine! Everything you could possibly desire is here. Gloriously comfortable beds and bedding, beautifully thought out interior design, lovely view over the garden and delightfully presented copious breakfasts. It was a wonderful break for two friends looking to escape for a couple of days. Thank you so much Shirley and Kevin.

A beautiful house and a warm welcome. Everything was excellent for our two night stay here. Shirley welcomed us to her lovely house in the middle of the delightful village of Ditchling. Our studio apartment was quiet, comfortable and well equipped. Breakfast was fruit, yogurt, eggs and bread provided on a tray for us to use as we wished. The nearest pub, The Bull, served excellent and imaginative food. There is lots to see and do in the surrounding area.

Introducing

thejointurestudios@gmail.com Crowther

Shirley Crowther moved to Ditchling from London in 1999 and lives in the main house with her partner Kevin, two cats and a lively Labrador. She's a very welcoming host who loves the area and sharing its pleasures with guests - the fantastic countryside, the many festivals, the local pubs, and most of all the friendly, creative and lively community. Shirley is well-travelled and ran an art gallery for many years; her home is full of contemporary paintings and ceramics collected from the talented artists she's worked with.
