The Experience

Come for comfortable independence in these suites and rooms around an 1890s farmhouse on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. Bedrooms have sitting areas with garden views; those in the barn are just as roomy and bright. There’s a sitting room to settle in too with stacks of books, squashy sofas and maps.

You have your own outdoor seating area but you’re welcome to wander the garden, a series of ‘zones’ with a stone-flagged terrace, a summer house and a formal garden. Find a quiet spot to sit with a book and listen to a myriad of birds. Wake to freshly cooked à la carte breakfasts with special homemade trifles, sausages and bacon from the local butcher plus vegan and gluten-free options.

Wonderful walks are a short drive away: Nidderdale or reservoir walks, and some superb gardens to visit like RHS Harlow Carr – absolutely delightful in every season. Eat in the local pub, return to your suite or room for a blissfully quiet night’s sleep.

Reviews

Simon and Lynne

Garden room 1 is very spacious and quiet. Very clean accommodation and a comfortable bed. In a convenient location with good access to local scenic places and towns like Harrogate, Ilkley, Skipton. We appreciated the warm hospitality of Mark and Sue and the staff who were all so warm and friendly. The food at breakfast was beautifully cooked and served. The Wellington Arms in close by Darley is a convivial pub and we also enjoyed Pately Bridge. For gardeners, Harlow Carr is splendid.

John and Heather

Diane

Beautiful clean well stocked rooms. Friendly professional hosts. Top quality B&B. Our third visit and will definitely return. Visit Sewestry Reservoir, St Mary's Church and Heritage Centre. Wonderful homemade cakes. Perfect for dropping in before/after a walk. RHS Harlow Carr and Betty's in the gardens.

Louise

We received the warmest of welcomes from Mark our host on arrival at this fabulous, relaxing guest house, Cold Cotes! We have stayed in almost all of the rooms which are individually, beautifully, tastefully furnished, and wonderfully spacious. Big comfortable cosy beds with luxurious pillows. The bathrooms also a good size and spotlessly clean! Everything you could think of provided and breakfast was in the welcoming, light airy building through from reception, the food freshly prepared by Mark and delicious. Meander through tranquil gardens, sit and relax in the summer house. Very special!

Rachel

Great hosts, chatty but not intrusive. If you want to go to Harrogate Baths, book early. Our day on Saturday consisted of a lovely tour of Harrogate, Ripon and Brimham Rocks followed by food at the Nelson Inn. We discovered Otley the next day, what a fantastic little town brimming with civic pride.

The neighbourhood

High above Harrogate find unspoilt countryside with dry stone walls, sheep grazing peacefully and huge views. The local pub, the Nelson is a five-minute drive and there's a lovely tea room just about a mile down the road. You'll head to Harrogate though for the theatre, the Yorkshire Show, the Flower Show, Christmas markets, and a huge choice of restaurants and independent shops. A grand day out.
