The Experience
In the heart of the city, this second-floor apartment occupies a distinguished 1860s corner block. The decor blends thoughtful artwork, lots of light and a relaxed feeling.
Tucked away behind a private door, two spacious double rooms offer much privacy – book both, and you’ll have the space to yourselves. One has garden views, an en suite shower room, and a compact kitchenette equipped with a microwave, fridge, kettle, and espresso machine cleverly concealed behind a curtain. The other bedroom looks out to the castle and the Traverse Theatre, you’ll find a coffee machine and kettle and there’s a private bathroom right next door. Both have king-size beds which can also be made up as twins.
Breakfast is a feast of homemade fig and pecan granola bars, muesli, porridge and fresh fruit. If it’s gloomy outside there’s a choice of board games and card games to play, but don’t wait for the weather – the best of Edinburgh is just a short stroll away.

Location
The neighbourhood
This is the heart of Edinburgh – all soaring architecture, theatres and leafy squares. Grassmarket and Princes Street are a short stroll, with George Street’s elegant shops just beyond. Nearby streets hum with pubs, cafés and hidden restaurants. Even the local graveyard has a story to tell – Thomas de Quincy, author of Confessions of an Opium Eater, is buried here.
Local points of interest from Ellen Brennan
- 1 Cambridge Street is located centrally with direct views of Edinburgh Castle and immediate access across the street to Princes Street Gardens. You can walk in the gardens to the National Gallery and Royal Academy.
- We're on the same street as the Traverse Theatre and the Usher Hall, and around the corner from the Lyceum Theatre.
- The Meadows and the centre of the Edinburgh University campus are just a ten-minute walk.
- It's a ten-minute walk to George Street with all its lovely shops. 15 to 20-minute walk, depending on your speed, to Waverley or Haymarket Stations (we are midway between the two) and the Portrait Gallery.
- Walk 10 minutes to gain access to the walkway along the Water of Leith. 18-20 minutes and you are in lovely Stockbridge, a few more minutes to the Royal Botanic Gardens.
- Whatever you want to see in Edinburgh, it's either an easy walk or very accessible via Edinburgh's brilliant public transport system. The buses are very reliable and the Usher Hall stop gets you back to the flat.

Introducing
Ellen Brennan
Ellen’s life has taken her from New York to London, Madrid, the Middle East, Mexico, Gloucestershire and Majorca. She’s worked on The Economist and for a Lebanese publisher, been an international headhunter, restored old houses and discovered a love of the potter’s wheel along the way – a creative thread that runs through the decorations of this lovely apartment.
