The Experience
This gracious Georgian house is a 10-minute walk from Princes Street. Step into a warm, raspberry-painted hall that’s lined with art, then settle in a graceful dining room with decanters on the sideboard and a welcoming home-baked something.
Bedrooms are elegant and comfortable with whisky and wine on a tray and smart bathrooms. Wake for breakfast at a beautifully polished table – Angela makes a great Scottish breakfast with black pudding from one of Edinburgh’s best-known butchers (just around the corner) and eggs all different ways. She will also happily rustle up “posh yoghurt” with seasonal sliced fruits, porridge or muesli, croissants and toast along with plenty of coffee, newspapers and chat – she’s easy to talk to and loves having guests to stay.
A short walk gets you to everything: the tram to Murrayfield, art galleries in Princes Street Gardens, museums in Chambers Street, Multrees Walk and George Street’s independent shops. Waverley station is 10 minutes.

We stayed here for 3 nights in a very quiet but central area. Our hosts were brilliant, the bed was very comfortable and breakfasts were excellent. Our hosts were very helpful re: restaurants, and there are some very good ones in the area. We are looking forward to a return visit. The tray of goodies, tea, coffee and wine was a nice touch, shame we do not drink whisky! The tram from the airport is cheap and reliable, ending just a 5 minute walk from Hart St, as are the buses, but It was easy to walk to so many sights. We loved the house and Edinburgh, thank you so much for a memorable visit.

James and Angela greeted us on arrival. They were very helpful and the place had a really homely feel. Our room was great. Really comfy bed, awesome shower, shortbread, wine and whiskey on arrival. Shortbread and drinks were replenished for day 2 as well. The breakfast was fantastic. We had a full Scottish breakfast both mornings with additional toast, jams, fruit, yoghurt, choice of cereals and mini pancakes. The room, the shower and the breakfast made it very hard to leave! Highly recommended. Very close to all amenities, bars, coffee shops and restaurants.

Location
The neighbourhood
Hart Street is part of a small, well-preserved and peaceful Georgian area a short walk from the East End of Princes Street. There are many outstanding restaurants nearby, and it’s in easy striking distance of the North Bridge - the link between the New Town and the Old Town - and all the main attractions of this wonderful city: the castle, the Royal Mile, Holyrood Palace, art galleries and more. A direct bus or tram gets you to Murrayfield for international sporting fixtures and concerts in around 20 minutes. The annual Tattoo and Fringe festivals are held every August.
Local points of interest from Angela Wilson
- 14 Hart Street lies at the centre of Edinburgh - within the New Town and a short distance from the North Bridge and Princes Street.
- The great museums, galleries and historic buildings of the city can be reached easily and happily on foot, and we are an ideal base for the Edinburgh Festival and international sporting events.

Introducing
Angela Wilson
Angela knows the history and present-day life of Edinburgh well and is a ready and willing source of advice. Ask her almost anything from bus tickets and shopping to worthwhile places to visit. She and her late husband James taught at a local prep school for many years (History for James and Latin and Greek for Angela). They fell into doing B&B many years ago when a parent at school sent them some Portuguese guests as she’d double booked. Angela still very much enjoys introducing people to this unique city. She has three grandsons, so guests sometimes have to navigate their way around the odd toy or cricket bat as they make their way to the front door!
Just a delightful place to stay! Great hosts, delicious breakfasts, and very clean and tidy. Also, very secure. Thank you James and Angela. Definitely stay with you on my next visit.
