The Experience

You get the best of both worlds here: Highland remoteness and Inverness just four miles away. The landscape surrounding this friendly cottage exudes a sense of ancient mystery with woodpeckers, red kites and deer in abundance along with some spectacular walks.

Araminta is a delightful host and her home has a lovely family feel; bedrooms are old-fashioned and cosy; the drawing room is snug with stove and books. Her Abyssinian cat, Bertie, likes to check out the contents of your car when you arrive – he’s so sociable and popular many guests try to smuggle him out in their luggage when they go… For breakfast Araminta gives you seasonal fruits and smoked salmon, a continental selection with homemade scones or a full Scottish spread.

Cawdor Castle and the gardens of Inverewe and Attadale are all on the doorstep. Return and meander along the mown paths around the garden and up through rowan trees to a viewpoint; sit back and enjoy the peace.

There couldn't be a better place to stay near Inverness. A really lovely hillside garden, in such an incredible setting on the Black Isle and great views to the south and west. What a wonderful backdrop to Araminta's very comfortable house and her great hospitality!

A great find, Minty is a super hostess and her house is charming. Our room was very comfortable and we had use of the lovely sitting room. Delicious breakfast and sound advice for things to do and places to eat. There are even red squirrels in her garden and her cats are delightful - thank you, Minty.

Minty is a great host full of welcome tips of where to go and where is good to eat etc....that insider knowledge is invaluable! As our daughter said '...despite the wonderful cats Minty is definitely the star of the show'. Her comfy home is lovely, full of pictures and books which makes it feel like home from home. The garden, planned mostly by her late husband, is full of beautiful trees and shrubs, plants and flowers, which because of his knowledge and Minty's care flourish in what is a micro climate. We will return!

A perfect place to stay in Inverness. A very friendly welcome from Araminta, fabulous location in a beautiful garden, with great views through the trees to the hills beyond. Very comfortable and spacious bedroom and sitting room with fire for chilly nights. Delicious breakfast. Araminta's advice on where to go and what to see, and how to get there was superb. She thinks of everything to make her guests feel welcome and comfortable. We are looking forward to returning to Inverness and our next visit to her beautiful home.

Location

The neighbourhood

Craigiewood is on the Black Isle, the peninsula between Munlochy Bay and the Inner Moray Firth waters. Famous for its rich farmland, much of which produces barley for whisky making, and its wildlife - dolphins, otters, seals, ospreys, red kites and more. Add to that castles, cairns, a museum, a cathedral and spectacular walks and you have all you need for a special break. The North Coast 500, the scenic route around the north coast of Scotland, starts and finishes in Inverness, so Craigiewood is an ideal place either to start or finish your drive/bike or walk. Golf fans will be happy – there are numerous courses within easy reach. The North Kessock Hotel (three miles) has excellent food.

Loch Ness - A “must see” for many - more interesting on the south side with the Falls of Foyers, associated with Robert Burns, a bonus.
Dolphins - These exhilarating animals can be seen and heard, from the shores of the Moray Firth less than five miles from Craigiewood.
Culloden Battlefield - The demise of the Stuart Kings is skilfully told in a “state of the art” exhibition here.
Fort George - Built after Culloden, this is a magnificent example of Georgian military architecture with superb views of the Moray Firth area, is a rewarding experience.
Cawdor Castle and Gardens - Inhabited from the fourteenth century until today, this castle and gardens have a rich social and political history and great beauty.
Dunrobin Castle and Gardens - Spectacular fairy-tale castle and gardens with falconry and quirky Victorian museum in superb setting. Golf - Within a few miles fine golf courses abound, Dornoch, Nairn, Fortrose and Castle Stuart to name a few.

Introducing

Araminta Dallmeyer

Araminta and her late husband Gavin built Craigiewood in 1990 little realising that eight years later - the children having flown the nest – they would be setting up B&B. Gavin planted a glorious rose-filled garden here, and many throughout Scotland, and his special touch remains. Araminta always says guests are very special to her and she likes them to treat her house as home - relaxing into the peace, admiring all the birds, switching off from everyday concerns. Many become life-long friends and a good few come back year after year.
