The Experience
Clad in timber and cradled by gorse and native shrubs, this lochside hideaway feels rooted in the wild landscape. A winding path leads down to Bernera Beach, where seals swim and seabirds wheel in the skies overhead. The house shares a firepit and a seating area with Nead Bernera next door, but there’s plenty of space for everyone.
Inside, floor-to-ceiling windows frame sweeping views to Skye and Eigg. Underfloor heating and a generous wood burner keep things cosy. The plywood kitchen is smart and Scandi-sleek. There’s no TV, but plenty of books and puzzles – plus the luxury of time to daydream and watch the weather roll by.
Two bedrooms – a double and a twin – share a stylish walk-in shower room, and there’s a second loo in the utility. Stroll to Glenelg for a pint, or (in the summer) hop on the tiny turntable ferry for Skye. Back at base, stargaze in skies free from light, then sleep soundly surrounded by silence.

Location
The neighbourhood
It’s a pleasant walk to Glenelg (less than a mile), which has a friendly pub with excellent food and stunning views. There’s a well-stocked grocer (fruit, veg, meat, local pies, beers and wine). The community hall hosts lively music events. Keen adventurers can hire canoes, join fishing or yacht trips, or try the superb cycling and hiking trails through the hills and along the coast.
Local points of interest from Sarah MacLaren & Sophie Howarth
- Our community-owned ferry the MV Glenachulish is the last manually operated turntable ferry in the world and makes the spectaular short crossing to Skye.
- Bernera Beach - directly in front of the house - offers white sands and sheltered waters bursting with wildlife and perfect for a wild swim.
- The cosy and atmospheric Glenelg Inn serves some of the finest food anywhere in Scotland.
- The beautiful and atmospheric Sandaig bay, immortalised in 'Ring of Bright Water' is a perfect place to spot otters and seals.
- Easy access to a range of Scotland's most impressive mountains - from the famous Five Sisters of Kintail, to the Black Cuillin of Skye.
- Dun Telve and Dun Troddan - two of Scotland's best preserved Iron Age brochs can be found nearby.
