The Experience

Wildlife fans will spot whales, dolphins, eagles, seals, otters and deer; wander through tall grasses sprinkled with bluebells, wild garlic and rare orchids. Stride over stunning hills, cycle your socks off, fish from the shore – there’s much to do and see from your award-winning architect-designed retreat on the hill. Inside is equally invigorating: floor to ceiling windows for long and wide views, a crisply dressed bed, super shower room, a sofa facing the sea and a sleek kitchen on the side.

You’ll feel very private: lovely Ian and Robbie are just down the hill but you can’t see them and they can’t see you. Instead they leave you alone with tasty biscuits and a good bottle of wine. If it all sounds too rustic for you then take heart! There’s a widescreen TV with Sky, WiFi, and a smart music system – even if it’s raining you’ll feel happy here.
Treat yourselves to a meal out at The Three Chimneys, a 10-minute winding drive.

We spent our honeymoon at An Airigh and loved every second in the property. Ian and Robbie, thank you so much for a peaceful and restorative stay. We loved all the local products from Skyeskyns and Skye weavers. We visited both and bought several items for our home. The house was exceptionally clean, kitchen well equipped and everything excellent quality. The view from the property was absolutely stunning. Ian and Robbie were lovely and welcoming and we even got a little tour of their magnificent Croft, with their fruit and veg growing. The welcome gifts were so thoughtful. We will be back.

This beautiful contemporary home for two has magnificent views of Loch Dunvegan from all three rooms and feels incredibly cosy and warm. We received a very detailed email prior to our arrival but Iain and Robbie were on hand (although never intrusive) to provide further helpful information about the area. The house has everything you would need with perfect attention to detail. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful holiday at An Airigh . The house suits so well in the wonderful landscape. The interior is a happy surprise of beautiful design. All created with much skill and love. Relaxing on the sofa we enjoyed the stunning views. Flocks of gannets diving for fish. A few times we saw a group of dolphins chasing and jumping over the waves. The 'front garden' is a botanic jewel box of biodiversity. An Airigh has great sense of place! Ian and Robby are very nice and friendly hosts. We felt very welcome and at home. Mind you, they work very hard to restore and manage the croft so well.

Wonderful stay at An Airigh, Ian and Robbie have a wonderful cottage. Everything we needed and more was there. They are wonderful hosts. Weather was amazing .Saw lots of birds including a Golden Eagle. Would certainly visit again and would highly recommend.

Location

The neighbourhood

Galtrigill is a small crofting township beside Loch Dunvegan - it's pretty much the 'end of the line' so there's no passing traffic. The nearest village shop, post office and the lovely Café Lephin is at Glendale, a 15-minute drive. Dunvegan is 25 minutes for Fasgadh Stores, the Fruit and Nut Place, a good bakery and The Dunvegan for informal, relaxed dining.

Local points of interest from Ian McLean

  • We are a short drive away from The Three Chimneys Restaurant
  • Dunvegan Head is a short 1 hour walk to the highest sea cliff on Skye with stunning 360 degree view of the Western Isles, Macleods Tables, The Cuillin and the Trotternish Ridge.
  • Neist Point - There is a Lighthouse and rocks reputed to be same formation that reaches over to the Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland. It’s a great place for fishing, wildlife such as dolphins, whales and sea birds as well as glorious sunsets.
  • Dunvegan Castle - Is Scotland’s oldest inhabited castle: you can explore the grounds and the beautiful walled garden. From there you can take seal boat trips.
  • Coral Beach - The white sandy beach is directly across the loch from An Airigh, made from unique calcified seaweed. It’s a beautiful natural place whatever the weather and the clear water looks so inviting. During very low tides you can cross the causeway.

Introducing

Ian McLean

Charming Ian and Robbie, great lovers of nature, swapped their London city jobs for a complete lifestyle change and are now crofters. They have Hebridean sheep, a vegetable garden with polytunnel and they planted the meadow in front of you as well as many trees. They came to Skye for the landscape, the wildlife and hill-walking and they hope you love it as much as they evidently do.
