The Experience

Wildlife fans will swoon: spot whales, dolphins, eagles, seals, otters and deer; wander through tall grasses sprinkled with bluebells, wild garlic and rare orchids. Stride over stunning hills, cycle your socks off, fish from the shore – there’s much to do and see from your award-winning architect designed retreat on the hill. Inside is equally invigorating: painted oak floors, floor to ceiling windows for long and wide views, a crisply dressed bed, super shower room, a squashy elephant grey sofa facing the sea and a sleek kitchen on the side. Best of all it’s deeply secretive: lovely Robbie and Ian are just down the hill but you can’t see them and they can’t see you. Instead they leave you alone with a welcome tray of treats and a good bottle of wine. If it all sounds too rustic for you then take heart! There’s widescreen TV with Sky HD, WiFi, a smart music system and designer furniture; The Three Chimneys is a short hop as is the Red Roof cafe. Lovers will feel entwined but there’s a surprisingly spacious feel so you won’t be getting in each other’s way. Sublime.

We were completely stunned by the beauty of Skye and staying at An Airigh allowed us to immerse ourselves completely in this wild part of the world. The location is perfect with walks from the house and some of the 'must see' destinations of Skye just a short drive away. The house itself is super comfortable, well-designed and well-equipped with floor to ceiling windows framing the most sublime views. Robbie and Ian are helpful hosts with good advice about things to do in the area and of course, just a few miles down the road is the very special Three Chimneys Restaurant.

We had a wonderful two week stay in An-airigh. The accommodation was faultless - comfortable, well equipped and well maintained. It's set in a beautiful landscape with amazing views and lovely walks from the doorstep. And so peaceful! Robbie and Ian are excellent hosts - offering great suggestions for things to do, trips to take and places to eat. This was our first trip to North West Skye and we are so glad that we were able to explore it from this great place. Highly recommended!

Howard, Bath

We had an amazing stay at An Airigh, the house is just perfect for the two of us and all the little details were absolutely spot on. It was the perfect base for us to explore Skye - we didn't want to be in a town over surrounded by other properties. An Airigh just ticked all of the boxes. Ian and Robbie were lovely and so nice and helpful, suggesting places to visit and things to do. The information pack in the house was also fantastic and lots of maps and books on the area too. We hope to be back in the not too distant future.

At this most stressful of times, An Airigh and Skye threw us a lifeline. The accommodation is so comfortable and well maintained and everything has been thought of. The views from the window are breathtaking. We spent most mornings quite happily relaxing in the house and looking at the ever changing skies, before heading out to explore the surrounding areas. We would most definitely return.

Carol, Nantwich

We had a fabulous week at An Airigh, a special private hideaway set in beautiful surroundings. Overlooking Dunvegan Loch with stunning views, it's so relaxing just to take it all in and watch the wildlife. The house is lovely, spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable, very well equipped with some nice touches such as locally sourced bathroom toiletries and welcome treats. Thank you Ian and Robbie for being great hosts, we had a wonderful time and will definitely be back.

What a beautiful place to stay! For something a little different and out in the wild, An Airigh fits the bill superbly. Everything you need is there, all high quality, ensuring a comfortable stay with a luxury feel. As for the scenery, we enjoyed watching dolphins swim down the loch in the evening and saw sunrises that were breath-taking! Ian and Robbie, despite the difficulties caused by the lockdown, had made sure that everything was completely safe and well-organised and were on hand for us if we needed them; lovely hosts who we sincerely hope to see again - we will want to go back!

We Stayed at An Airigh on the Isle of Skye from 16th-23rd November 2019. We highly recommend anyone to stay here. It is a hidden gem. Without doubt the most tranquil and relaxing beautiful accommodation. An Airigh has all the luxuries you need, is immaculately clean, with breath taking views. Attention to detail is second to none. Ian & Robbie are exceptional helpful, friendly and are at hand if you need anything. We would love to visit the Isle Of Skye again and have no hesitation on staying here again.

Sadie, Birmingham

Loved both Skye and An Airigh. Would heartily recommend. Designed by award-winning architects. Well furnished. A stupendous view. Attention to detail. Robbie and Ian are lovely too.

Adrian, Cambridge

An Airigh was a dream come true. Ian and Robbie are perfect hosts and made sure every detail was attended to and were always there to lend a helping hand. The house itself is just as depicted and to say it's spotlessly clean would be an understatement. Heavenly to look out onto the sea, the ever-changing skies and the wandering sheep down by the cliff. A perfect house in a perfect spot !

Anke, Munich

We spent our honeymoon at An Airigh and loved every second in the property. Ian and Robbie, thank you so much for a peaceful and restorative stay. We loved all the local products from Skyeskyns and Skye weavers. We visited both and bought several items for our home. The house was exceptionally clean, kitchen well equipped and everything excellent quality. The view from the property was absolutely stunning. Ian and Robbie were lovely and welcoming and we even got a little tour of their magnificent Croft, with their fruit and veg growing. The welcome gifts were so thoughtful. We will be back.

Lydia, London

This beautiful contemporary home for two has magnificent views of Loch Dunvegan from all three rooms and feels incredibly cosy and warm. We received a very detailed email prior to our arrival but Iain and Robbie were on hand (although never intrusive) to provide further helpful information about the area. The house has everything you would need with perfect attention to detail. Highly recommended.

We are thoroughly enjoying our stay at an airigh on the isle of skye. The accommodation is fabulous. Everything you need and more. Great location and Robbie and Ian are just adorable. Weather is horrendous but we don't care, we just hunker down in this warm and cosy living room and watch the clouds drift by. Can we stay here forever please? ☺☺

Francesca, Staffordshire

We had a wonderful holiday at An Airigh . The house suits so well in the wonderful landscape. The interior is a happy surprise of beautiful design. All created with much skill and love. Relaxing on the sofa we enjoyed the stunning views. Flocks of gannets diving for fish. A few times we saw a group of dolphins chasing and jumping over the waves. The 'front garden' is a botanic jewel box of biodiversity. An Airigh has great sense of place! Ian and Robby are very nice and friendly hosts. We felt very welcome and at home. Mind you, they work very hard to restore and manage the croft so well.

Jan, Oentsjerk

Wonderful stay at An Airigh, Ian and Robbie have a wonderful cottage. Everything we needed and more was there. They are wonderful hosts. Weather was amazing .Saw lots of birds including a Golden Eagle. Would certainly visit again and would highly recommend.

Jill, Ashbourne

An Airigh is so special - secluded, intimate, romantic, unique. We never tired of the gorgeous views over the cliffs to Loch Dunvegan. There is a lot to do in the area and we hiked everyday. We even enjoyed the storm that came through and felt very safe and secure in this cozy little home. It can take a bit of driving to get to and from An Airigh but that is also the beauty of it.

Kerri, Venice

Absolutely excellent accommodation in stunning location. The house has glorious views and is very well equipped. The owners are very pleasant and could not be more helpful. I will definitely recommend it to any family members who are looking to visit the Isle of Skye.

Just the perfect place to spend our Silver Wedding. An Airigh is special and compliments the landscape and view. It's a beautiful calm and relaxing space. It's cosy and bright and has the best of everything available. The bed is comfortable but take eye shades as the light still manages to penetrate through the beautiful Skye Weavers tweed curtains (highly suggest a visit to them). Ian and Robbie were brilliant in answering my many questions before hand and provided a lovely welcome gift. If you need to just get away then this is where you need to go.

Su, Aberdeen

We stayed a week at An Airigh and couldn't have been happier. The accommodation itself is outstanding, with great attention to detail. Despite being very modern, it is also very cosy and homely. It's in a remote, North Western corner of Skye and is very peaceful. Opening the bedroom curtain every morning to see the wonderful scenery, including the snow-capped mountains of Harris across the water, was magical. All email communication with the owners was efficient and friendly and it was a pleasure to meet Ian when he popped round to welcome us. All in all, a thoroughly lovely holiday.

Jonathan, London

An Airigh is an place of calm, tranquility and luxury. Amazing and stunning property with picture postcard views - everything you need for a fabulous holiday. Ian and Robbie have created a luxurious place in a great location for you to explore the whole of Skye; whether its to visit the Fairy pools, distilleries or the Three Chimneys or just sit and relax; watching the views from the comfy sofa. Nothing has been forgotten in this property to make your stay great and nothing is any trouble for them - they make you feel so welcome - it's a home away from home. We did not want to leave!

James & Debbie, Glasgow

We had a fantastic week on Skye at An Airigh. Amazing setting and base from which to explore the whole island. Beautifully furnished with local crafts (most of which we subsequently visited and bought). Robbie and Ian were extremely welcoming and on hand if we needed anything. Would happily return again to escape busy city life.

Local points of interest from Ian McLean

  • An Airigh has a local market garden with seasonal fruits and vegetables.
  • Dunvegan Head is a short 1 hour walk to the highest sea cliff on Skye with stunning 360 degree view of the Western Isles, Macleods Tables, The Cuillin and the Trotternish Ridge.
  • We are a short drive away from the The Three Chimneys Restaurant
  • Neist Point - There is a Lighthouse and rocks reputed to be same formation that reaches over to the Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland. It’s a great place for fishing, wildlife such as dolphins, whales and sea birds as well as glorious sunsets.
  • Dunvegan Castle - Is Scotland’s oldest inhabited castle: you can explore the grounds and the beautiful walled garden. From there you can take seal boat trips.
  • Coral Beach - The white sandy beach is directly across the loch from An Airigh, made from unique calcified seaweed. It’s a beautiful natural place whatever the weather and the clear water looks so inviting. During very low tides you can cross the causeway.
