Waternish, Isle of Skye

A light-filled haven for two overlooking Skye’s beautiful coastline. Tranquil sea views, contemporary interiors and wonderful walks…

1 bedroom

Sleeps 2

On a clear day you can enjoy breath-taking, uninterrupted views across the Minch to the Outer Hebrides. Come to this tranquil spot on the Waternish peninsula for views, light and peace. The eco-friendly, architect-designed building overlooks a beautiful stretch of coast from Dunvegan Head to Loch Bay; wonderful walks start from your doorstep. Step into a bright, open-plan sitting and dining room with oak floors and a wood-burner for cosy evenings. Glazed sliding doors frame the sea and sky beyond. There’s a well-equipped little kitchen and a comfortable sofa to curl up in, too. In the serene bedroom another glazed wall overlooks the bay, while prints by local artists and striped cushions create a calm, nautical feel. A smart walk-in shower and towelling robes in the contemporary bathroom are luxurious touches. It’s a 20-minute stroll to the 18th-century Stein Inn where you can sample local mussels and scallops by the shore. The Skyeskyns tannery is also a short walk, while you can hop in the car to explore Dunvegan Castle, home to the MacLeod Clan.

Fabulous cottage with stunning views and sunsets. The Lookout is just perfect inside and outside. It is spotlessly clean, well equipped and very very cosy!! It is in a good central position for visiting the whole of the beautiful island. The owners are lovely people who will go out of their way to help and nothing is too much trouble. Had an incredible week staying here!!!

Fabulous, clean warm modern cottage with amazing view! The owners Lorna and Murray are really friendly.Everything inside and out is kept to a very high standard. We would highly recommend this as a place to explore the Isle of Skye

Douglas, York

We had a great week at the lookout. The location is stunning but it is the care and attention to detail invested in making this a true home from home that marks this out as perhaps the loveliest holiday cottage we have ever visited … Thank you both

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Lorna Gray

  • The Lookout is a short walk from the oldest inn on Skye, the Stein Inn, established 1790. Here you can sample fresh locally caught seafood, traditional pub meals and enjoy a large selection of Scottish whiskies.
  • The sunsets that can be enjoyed on the Waternish peninsula have been named as the best in the world, triumphing over competition from the likes of Hawaii or Bali.
  • The Lookout is an eco-friendly passive house and features an advanced design air recovery system meaning that it is a cosy retreat all year round.
  • Waternish has a rich and colourful history. Visit the medieval church and cemetery at Trumpan, now in ruin, to discover stories of clan feuding, brutal attacks, and try your luck at the ancient Trial Stone.
  • Take a short drive around the coastline to dine at The Three Chimneys. This world famous restaurant has received a host of international awards and acclaim, including Michelin and AA status.
  • Stroll down to the local pier at Stein to and take to the sea with Diver's Eye Boat Trips. The knowledgeable local skipper offers a variety of boat trips from wildlife watching, fishing and days away.
