The Experience

It’s all about location, location, location, and sitting in 12 acres of its own private woodland, this 70s-style bungalow has got that in spades. Perched among the trees above the loch, the house has a wrap-around terrace and big windows that soak up the view.

Inside, two bedrooms – a king size and a flexible twin – are spacious and calm. The two bathrooms are freshly refurbished – one has a bath, the other a shower – and the original kitchen has everything you need (including a banging bean-to-cup coffee machine). Curl up by the wood-burning stove, play a board game, or watch a film on the big projector screen.

Better yet, wander down to the lochside for a swim or a stroll. No neighbours, total privacy, and forest all around. Sunsets, crackling fires, and the deep quiet of the Highlands make it easy to relax, recharge and reset.

We think you'll love

  • All the outdoor activities, from cycling and hiking to kayaking on the loch
  • The generous welcome hamper of sourdough bread, local jam, tea and coffee, organic milk and butter, a bottle of whisky and a tin of toffee
  • Seeing sea eagles, pine martins and deer, if you’re lucky

Reviews

There is so much to like about what Mischa and Laura have done here. The location is stunning – it feels remote yet connected, a very distinct feeling of being back in nature.

Location

The neighbourhood

The Inn at Loch Tummel (10-min walk) has a terrace overlooking the loch and a menu of beautifully sourced local dishes. For more choice, Pitlochry (20-min drive) has cafés, inns, restaurants, even a theatre. Hike up Schiehallion (10 miles), wander through Faskally Forest (nine miles), or head to Queen’s View (four miles) for iconic Highland scenery.

Local points of interest from Laura & Mischa

  • Darach itself is irresistible and you could almost spend all your time there – it sits on 12 acres with a private beach, meadow, ancient woodland, and a children's play area. Alt an Treesait Burn runs the length of the property, down to Loch Tummel.
  • 'Fairy Hill of the Caledonians' is an iconic, cone-shaped mountain (Munroe) at the end of Loch Tummel. Famous for its near-perfect symmetry and historical role in calculating the Earth's mass (Schiehallion experiment).
  • Drive or cycle to Rannoch Station Tearoom. Rannoch Station is one of the most remote railway stations in the UK. Be bombarded by wild beauty and soaring mountaintops. The station café has the BEST homemade cakes at the end of a train ride or walk.
  • Visit Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre. Learn about Scotland's fascinating renewables history and heritage as well as how SSE harnesses the power of nature in a positive way. They also have interactive exhibitions, a great walk and café.
  • Allean Forest and Queen's View. Discover an 18th-century homestead and a Pictish fort – heritage is written into the landscape at Allean Forest. Queen's View is a historic viewpoint with iconic panoramas over Loch Tummel.
  • Blair Athol Distillery – one of Scotland's oldest working distilleries, established in 1798 – is well worth a visit. Dalwhinnie Distillery, further up the road, is a single malt distillery located just inside the Cairngorms National Park.
