The Experience
A thoughtful renovation of a Victorian schoolhouse, sustainably restored with much love and a huge dollop of beauty. The spacious hall has hooks and shelves, a warm utility room deals with wet gear and the kitchen is a convivial dream for cooks and those who want to help or simply chat.
Children will be safe and happy in the playground with seesaw, swings and slides – then they can pop down to the walled garden for a game of Poohsticks in the burn. Older children can head off to woods for building dens, take a boat or kayak to the island in the loch, have picnics, run free – the 3000-acre estate is yours to roam. Al fresco meals at the big wooden table will be sublime, listening to birdsong, enjoying the views and the utter peace.
Spend precious family time together in the sitting room, sleep peacefully in pretty bedrooms, admire original art and colourful prints, feel lucky that you chose this grand spot.

Location
The neighbourhood
There are excellent walks from the door and Lucy can organise guided walks. The estate's loch is a four-minute walk, the fenced woodland is safe for children and dogs and there are paths running through it. Say hello to some Blacknose sheep, a Clydesdale colt and a couple of rescue donkeys. Kirkmichael is five miles for a shop selling most things, further afield are castles and The House of Bruar.
Local points of interest from Lucy Holt
- There are endless Highland walks on your doorstep, through woodland and wildflower meadows and across heathland and ridges.
- From kayaking and fishing on the loch to guided nature walks, the estate offers heaps of activities for outdoor adventure. Resident chef Penny can deliver her famed Wild Picnic fayre to the cabin for you to take out and about with you.
- The picturesque town of Pitlochry in Highland Perthshire, famed for its Festival Theatre on the banks of the River Tummel, is just 20 minutes away.
- The bustling town of Dunkeld, filled with cracking eateries, independent shops and fantastic forest walks (30 mins' drive).
- Immerse yourself into Scottish history with a visit to Blair Castle, the fairytale-esque home of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl for over 7 centuries (30 mins' drive).
- Go high-end shopping at House of Bruar, known as 'Harrods of the North' and famed for its food hall and huge range of country clothing (40 mins' drive).
