The Experience

Our inspector was reluctant to leave: so charming is the conversion and so stunning is the setting. Only the grey stone exterior belies its 19th-century laundry origins; inside all is light and airy in the spacious open-plan kitchen/diner/living room. The vaulted ceiling soars, original and new beams marry well, thick stone walls set off local artworks. This is a friendly comfy space: whip up meals in the modern kitchen, dine at the farmhouse table, unbend on squashy sofas in front of the wood-burner (first basket of logs free), drink in the hilly views. Bedrooms (all on the ground floor) are calm and uncluttered with deep windows framing more long views; contemporary bathrooms sparkle. Outside there’s a terrace for barbecues, a wildflower meadow, and a pond teeming with wildlife (watch small children). Delightful owners – who also let out the farmhouse next door, otherwise you have the place to yourself – leave cake and bubbles in the kitchen; Selkirk is close for supplies. You’re in border country so lovers of outdoor pursuits will be in clover: horse-riding, golf, fishing… biking and hiking from the door too.

Reviews

We spent a wonderful Xmas/New Year week at Laundry Cottage. The cottage is very spacious, and tastefully decorated. The kitchen was well equpped and we had some great family meals. A very secluded and peaceful location with beautiful views over the Border hills. Also a very nice pub within walking distance in the beautiful Ettrickbridge.

Paul, Bucks

Laundry cottage is in a beautiful setting with views across the countryside. The cottage is spacious with all of the amenities you could need. We really enjoyed our trip to the Scottish Borders with lots in the area to see and do. We will definitely be visiting again.

Faye, Sunderland

We had a family holiday with two young children. Laundry Cottage is a perfect home to stay in. A great location, you can walk from the front door and plenty of footpaths in the area. The views are fabulous, with countryside all around you. The house itself is lovely with comfortable beds and fabulous bathrooms. Ten out of ten for the showers. A real bonus was a smart television with Netflix. We had two wonderful days at beaches north of Berwick on Tweed . Quite a drive but the scenery was beautiful. At the end of the day Laundry Cottage was lovely to come back to. I would definitely recommend.

Margaret, Loughborough

Lovely cottage, feels much more remote than it is. The owners were very accommodating and answered emails promptly. Perfect venue for a boys’ fishing week on the Ettrick Water. We’ll book again next year.

Hugh, Tiverton, Devon

We had the loveliest 3 night stay at Laundry Cottage - one of the nicest holiday rental places we have ever stayed. The cottage itself is so clean, spacious and well equipped and the area is beautiful - so peaceful and amazing scenery from every window. Would highly recommend.

Catherine, London

This is a gem of a property . It's our 2nd visit and we will be back. Great views across the fields , comfortable and cosy, well kitted out and responsive owners on hand if you need them. Great wee pub and restaurant 5 min walk away in Etrrick bridge and loads and loads of things to do nearby . Love this place.

Iain, Knockdon, Near Maybole

Laundry Cottage is very comfortable and well furnished, quiet and with lovely views. Good walking from the door and much more within short drives. Hosts welcoming and quickly responsive to any issues. Highly recommended.

David, London

We throughly enjoyed our 3 days at Laundry Cottage - perfect place to stay, relaxing, quiet, lovely decor, clean & comfortable. We found the area to be really beautiful and the locals very friendly. We had a fantastic meal & great afternoon at the village pub & visited both Melrose & Peebles whilst we were there, both interesting villages to explore - we will definitely visit the borders again & hopefully be able to stay in Laundry Cottage :D

Raquel, Newcastle upon Tyne

An absolutely beautiful place to spend a week. Our 1 year old and 3 year old loved it - going down to the river for a paddle, seeing the wildlife every morning and playing on the patio while we enjoyed the view. Great hosts who gave us advice on where to visit and ensured we could make it a home away from home, with a bottle of fizz and shortbread to greet us, and tips to keep the little ones entertained!

Nick, London

We’ve stayed at Laundry Cottage several times. It is a spacious, well organised, generously equipped and attractive house on one level. The view from the sitting area is lovely: rolling hills, entertaining sheep and scarcely a human to be seen or heard. The owners are very nice people and could not be more helpful. There’s plenty to see and do locally and also a splendid train service from Galashiels to Edinburgh. A full day out in that beautiful place is simplicity itself. We will certainly return to Louisa’s excellent haven and thank her again for her hospitality.

David, Lancaster

Excellent cottage with all the home comforts. The location is spectacular with wonderful views. Thank you for a great welcome and a wonderful stay. We will certainly be back for another visit.

Kathy, Cheltenham

The cottage is very comfortable, private, child & dog safe & so peaceful. Numerous places to visit nearby. The children (4 & 8) particularly enjoyed Bowhill estate which has the best adventure playground ever & wonderful grounds to walk with the dogs. A really enjoyable break.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tranquil stay in lovely surroundings with views over to the surrounding hills, which are very accessible. Extra touches added to the welcome, such as the bottle of Prosecco. The cottage is a delightful blend of modern comforts and original features and despite it being March, we were very warm and comfortable. Thoroughly recommended!

Neil, Bradford West Yorkshire

Laundry Cottage was perfect for our weekend stay....everything you could possibly need. It was clean, warm, plenty of hot water and the beds were super comfortable. Beautiful cottage.

Valerie, Northumberland

We have had the most relaxing and comfortable stay in this lovely cottage. In a peaceful and private location, with beautiful views to die for from practically every window, this place has proven to be one of our favourite places to stay. The cottage is immaculate, very warm and cosy, but also light filled and spacious enough for 6. There are loads of great walks on the doorstep and there is a nice dog friendly pub in the village, which is within an easy 10 minute walk. The borders are full of great places to visit , the roads are quiet and the locals very friendly. We will be back soon...

Karen, Vale of Belvoir

Had a lovely stay in your beautiful cottage and the peace and quiet was just what we were after. The cottage was very well equipped and the showers were fab! Would love to visit again in the future.

Daniel, Edinburgh

Laundry cottage was lovely very comfortable and very well equipped. We had a very relaxing holiday in lovely surroundings. We would definitely recommend this property.

Lorraine, Inverurie

In early 2018, we had every sort of weather - one day, we were lounging on the terrace in the sunshine, reading (admittedly, in coats!) and the next we were in front of a log fire watching the snow falling over the hills, pitying the sheep. (The friendly owners supplied extra logs at this point!) We were looking for a lazy break and this fulfilled every requirement. It is isolated - but not too isolated. The views from the cottage are stunning. We were near to shops and had a lovely day out at Melrose Abbey. Laundry Cottage is a comfortable home from home in which to chill - but not literally!

Annie, Highworth

We had a wonderful stay here back in February 2018, the cottage is beautifully appointed and very spacious. We had exceptionally good weather for the time of year and the light and views from the lounge out over the hills were fantastic, our dog loved nothing more than sunbathing by the patio door. Although it was sunny, it was still exceptionally cold and the log burner was very welcomed! We would have loved to have come back over summer, unfortunately so did everyone else, and the cottage has been fully booked, but we will return soon!

Dan, Halifax

What a lovely rural spot. Warm and toasty with a brilliantly well stocked kitchen. Gorgeous views and local walks. Plenty to do in nearby Selkirk and Melrose. We will be going again!
