The Experience
A London Brownie hut was shipped up to house the village schoolteacher during the 1940s, then used as a salmon smokery until Louisa transformed it into a holiday home. Down higgledy-piggledy steps from the roadside and into a large porch/utility room, big enough to store bikes in safely, then a kitchen with space for two to cook happily and all the gear you need.
The dining/sitting room has an original beam, a big table and benches, games, books, an open fire with logs and a drinks sideboard. A very comfortable place to be on a chilly day or, in summer, with the french doors open to the loggia overlooking the water. Paintings and prints are by the owner and she also leaves you something freshly baked.
The garden is uncultivated, budding botanists will find rare orchids alongside poppies, cornflowers and fruit bushes. Oyster catchers nest nearby, this is a beautiful nature-filled space for lovers and dreamers.

We had a comfortable and cosy stay in characterful Riverside Cabin. Attractively decorated with comfortable beds and very warm if the weather is bad. It’s also in a lovely setting with loads to do in the local area. Cross Keys pub, a stroll away is a very welcoming with good food and live music at weekends. Melrose is a nice town with independent shops. Lots to do in the area as well as walks, kayaking and wild swimming. We really enjoyed visits to Walter Scott’s home and Tranquair House.

I initially chose this cabin due to its location, a beautiful and fairly remote little village in the Scottish Borders. The added bonus was the proximity of the cabin to a beautiful river which could be viewed from both inside and outside the cabin. The cabin itself is absolutely gorgeous. It has everything you need for a get away including a lovely log fire and powerful shower. It is beautifully furnished and spotless. I cannot recommend this place highly enough to anyone considering visiting, I know that we will definitely be back at some point in the not too distant future.

From the door you can stride out on stunning walks through the Ettrick and Yarrow valleys for lochs, woodland, hills and wild moorland. You can also walk to a nice old-fashioned pub for decent grub and a pint. Selkirk, 6 miles, is a market town famous for Sir Walter Scott and has a butcher and a baker. Cyclists can tackle The Swire Climb, historians will visit the ruined abbey at Melrose.

Introducing
Louisa Marston
Louisa grew up helping her mother organise Edinburgh Festival flats for leading artists, and she's managed holiday lets in the Borders for many years. Design, interiors and the decorative arts excite her and she has a keen interest in all things flora and fauna. She lives nearby and has three children so she understands the needs of parents holidaying with young or older children.
Beautifully locate cabin. Sat relaxing and listening to the river flow passed and watching the wildlife was a brilliant part of this holiday. Bed was so comfy, shower fabulous, specially after a days walking. Cabin fully equipped and very comfortable. The guide to local walks an added bonus. Hope to be back again some day.
