The Experience
The magnificence of the landscape surely inspired the Victorian artists who named this solid stone cottage their studio. Step straight into a modern, country-cosy, slate-floored kitchen, a great place to cook a romantic meal after a day up Snowdon… then cuddle into the bright two-seater sofa by the wood-burner in the large living room, where rag-washed ochre walls compliment the drape of rich fabrics and modern art.
Then it’s an easy hop up open stairs to a mezzanine bedroom above – the result of the entire building being constructed around a vast boulder. You’re left basics in the cupboards for cooking, Welsh cakes, a Welsh loaf and locally-roasted coffee along with fresh eggs and a tin of soup in case you’ve come empty handed – it’s a generous sort of place.
It’s all about the walking here – up to a picnic bench in a woodland clearing with views along the magnificent Lledr Valley, or to the Neolithic burial chamber behind.

We had a fabulous couple of nights staying in the cottage. We drove up the driveway and both our reactions were 'Wow!' It was just so pretty! It didnt stop there, the cottage is so cosy with a log burner which would be lovely on a chilly evening. It is such a very well planned and equipped place with all the luxuries of home and more besides. The location is spot on too! They have created the perfect place to stay and make sure you get the most out of your time in a beautiful part of the world. You must stay here if you visit the area - you definitely won't regret it!

Enjoyed our 3-night stay in The Studio. A lovely little place for a couple - cosy, very comfortable and very well equipped, with a generous “welcome pack” provided. An excellent location, very convenient for visiting mountains, coast, etc and the lovely Bodnant Gardens, plus some great places to eat just down the road in Bettws-y-Coed. The owners are very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Would definitely recommend.

We had a WONDERFUL visit to Y Stiwdio Pengwern. It’s a gorgeous cosy and deceptively spacious studio cottage. The balcony bedroom is charming. The owners are very welcoming and left us a generous range of local food and wine to get us started. Betws y Coed is such a good location for a holiday and after a full week we hadn’t fully explored Betws let alone all the surrounding mountains! We have an EV and charging was easy in Betws. Highly recommend!

Location
The neighbourhood
Walks will be sublime, road and mountain cycling too. Pretty and bustling Betws-y-Coed is 1.5 miles for good places to eat, outdoorsy shops (there's an Alpine feel) and a railway station. Drive 20 minutes to tackle Eryri but there are also castles, underground adventures, wildlife, waterfalls and fascinating art and history. Llandudno is a 40-minute drive for a stunning beach.
Local points of interest from Gwawr & Ian Mowatt
- THE STUDIO/Y STIWDIO, overlooking the beautiful LLEDR VALLEY, is the perfect base for the great outdoors and a central location to explore North Wales and all it has to offer whether ON, ABOVE or BELOW the Welsh landscape!
- 1m away, BETWS-Y-COED was an artist colony in Victorian times, know today as the ‘The Gateway to ERYRI National Park (Snowdonia)’, a year-round destination where Welsh art can still be found along with cafes, mountaineering and craft shops.
- Can’t pronounce Betws-y-coed? We will teach you! Welsh language and culture is very much alive. Male Voice Choir concerts during summer, visit castles, GWYDIR 4m or DOLWYDDELAN 6m, many famous NT/CADW properties, NT BODNANT Gardens 13m, PORTMEIRION 22m.
- Most popular mountain peaks 20min to 1hr drive. Peaceful and gentler walks from doorstep: FAIRY GLEN riverside walk, CAPEL GARMON Neolithic burial chamber, CONWY FALLS, explore LLYN ELSI or join SLATE TRAIL exploring our UNESCO World Heritage site.
- MOUNTAIN BIKE hire/tours from the village. Penmachno, Coed-y-Brenin, Antur Stiniog. Gwydir. ZIP WORLD zip lines: Titan 11m, Velocity 16m, Zip Fforest 2m. GO BELOW Underground Adventures, all weather: HQ Conwy Falls Base 1m, Tanygrisiau 12m.

Introducing
Gwawr & Ian Mowatt
Welsh is Gwawr's first language so she'll happily tell you how to pronounce her name! Both she (who loves nature and paints as a hobby) and Ian (an experienced mountain walker) are from the area. They love their guests to enjoy a taste of the real Welsh experience. They know climbing Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) is a captivating draw but they also know there is much, much more to enjoy in this beautiful countryside.
We had a delightful four day stay at 'The Studio'. Everything we needed for a cosy stay from the generous basket of logs to the lovely welshcakes and more! This made it the perfect place to enjoy Snowdonia and return to a comfortable, relaxing hideaway. We would recommend a stay here.
