The Experience

Up to the first floor for a spacious open-plan living, cooking and dining area with vaulted roof, wood-burner, soft sofas and cushions, plus good books and games – a lovely convivial spot for dining, reading, talking or watching a film together, without the cook feeling left out. Well-chosen pictures, pretty fabrics and ‘objets’ collected over time from antiques shops in Wales cast a homely light on it all.

Downstairs are a cosy double and twin, with sumptuous beds and linen and handmade cushions and curtains. The family bathroom is gorgeous with both bath and a walk-in shower. To the front you have a small gravel garden encircled by picket fencing, a cast iron table and chairs and a barbecue. This faces west for magical sunsets listening to birds, waiting for stars to appear.

Across the lane is the shared indoor heated pool (open from 7am till 9pm) and outdoor table tennis. There are three acres to roam and the Wales Coastal Path to join for stunning walks.

Reviews

Climb the stairs and discover a fabulous open-plan living space with vaulted ceilings, a wood-burner centre stage and super soft sofas that invite you to sink onto them with a good book. The immaculate family bathroom is another treat. Beaches and mountains are all within easy reach and you have 3-acres on your doorstep to roam: find the secret bench at sunset to watch the sun dip into the sea.

Dove cottage was a perfect ,peaceful, cosy place for our short stay with our cocker spaniel. This cottage would be perfect in any season as it is a nice space to hunker down in but also the grounds on warmer days are beautiful and a walk away to the beach. The swimming pool was lovely especially after many walks. The whole of the estate is kept immaculate. We hope to return and to enjoy the surrounding countryside again soon.

This is the second time we have stayed at the estate. Our first time was over Christmas and we stayed in stable cottage which was exceptional. This time we stayed in Dove Cottage just us with our two dogs this time. I can't fault the location, everything is beautifully looked after, there are some lovely walks right from the cottage and of course the log burner is a win for my husband.... The upstairs layout is perfect, an all in one room so you don't feel away from the action when you are cooking. I would absolutely recommend a stay here and we will certainly be back.

Peace and tranquility at its best, dog friendly too. We had a three night stay in July, on arrival the cottage was spotless. Plenty of flowers around living area and even a couple of dog bowls, treats and a roll of poo bags for our pouch. There was also some fresh milk in the fridge and some biscuits. Toiletries supplied were really nice. Dog walk field had fab views over the sea and the pool was lush. Friendly staff helped us with the Quooker tap! Simple in the end though.

Paul

A really wonderful week spent at the lovely Dove Cottage. Really can't be faulted despite the dodgy weather. Very relaxing and made extremely welcome by all concerned. Will definitely be returning at the first opportunity.

Location

The neighbourhood

On the western edge of Snowdonia National Park overlooking Cardigan Bay and with Cadair Idris nearby. The truly beautiful Dysynni Valley runs inland a few miles away and has the ruins of Castell y Bere to visit plus craggy Bird's Rock to climb (30 minutes to the top.) The coastal town of Aberdovey is a short drive for a good pub, the Penhelig Arms. Walk 10 mins to catch the train to Harlech.

Local points of interest from Gareth Roberts

  • The Secret Garden - Come on a very special treasure hunt, and find The Secret Garden in Tywyn! Right next to the Magic Lantern Cinema, enjoy cocktails, mocktails and cinema snacks in a very special location.
  • Dolgoch Falls Waterfall Walk - Dolgoch Falls are a series of three impressive waterfalls forming part of the Nant Dol-Góch stream, a source for the River Fathew, and can be reached via a short walk. There are a number of caves and tunnels which you can explore on the route up.
  • The Talyllyn Railway - The Talyllyn Railway is the worlds first preserved railway, and a must-have place to visit on your trip to Tywyn. Originally built in 1866 for carrying slate from Abergynolwyn to Tywyn, it runs for 7.25 miles through beautiful and unspoilt countryside.
  • Aberdfyi - Is just a 15 minute drive, beautiful white sand beach, lots of water activities, great fish and chips and the best ice cream shop around!
  • Castell y Bere - It may be remote, but Castell y Bere a magnet for all castle lovers. Strung along a jagged rocky outcrop in the Dysynni Valley at the foot of the mighty Cader Idris, Castell y Bere is especially good at evoking the spirit and atmosphere of Wales’s native castles.
  • Cadair Idris - Cadair Idris is one of Wales’s most iconic mountains, standing around 893m in height, and situated in Southern Snowdonia, overlooking Dolgellau.
