The Experience

Trundle down a rough track to an old worker’s cottage surrounded by 40 acres of wildflower meadows cultivated by hand. Artists Neti and Hugo live opposite in their barn – if you fall in love with any of the artwork in the cottage you can visit their studio to see more.

It’s quiet here: writers can tap away and artists scribble at the large wooden dining table, or in the extension facing the gorgeous countryside. The open fire makes it cosy to hunker down on the sofa with a good book – there are plenty to choose from on the bookshelf.

Drive to Newport in 15 minutes for the beach (perfect for walks and swimming), shops, pubs and restaurants; try out the craft beer at Bluestone Brewers nearby. There are lots of great beaches – Poppit Sands, Cwybr Bay for pebble coves and seal and dolphin spotting; kayaking, surfing, riding and cycling can be arranged locally.

Ty Glas is our favourite place on earth. You can't really put into words how magical this place is - a weekend here feels like you're in your own little world. Coming back to reality feels like a wrench. Also impossible to describe how quiet it is - only the sound of birds and the wind, and so many stars at night! Hugo and Neti are perfect hosts, they are so warm and welcoming and inspiring. The bed was so comfy, the cottage was warm, the log fires cosy and the roll top bath was perfect. We loved watching the wild horses at sunset from the balcony. Thanks Hugo and Neti for a perfect break x

The neighbourhood

The nicest pub, the Trewern Arms is at Nevern - a ten-minute drive. Both Newport (15 minutes) and Cardigan (15 minutes) are lively towns with good pubs and cafes and a noticeably growing foodie culture. There’s great walking too – the coastal path around this part of Pembrokeshire is stunning, and you have the Preseli Hills in easy reach as well as Carningli mountains, the site of ancient forts and spectacular mountain views.

Introducing

Annette de Mestre & Hugo Colville

It was the peace and wilderness of the Pembrokeshire coast that drew Neti and Hugo to the area 20 years ago. The pair – who met through a theatre Neti was running in Herefordshire as Hugo initially trained as an actor – were searching for a place to settle, and looked first in France and Ireland before friends suggested this 40-acre smallholding outside the seaside town of Newport. They are both keen on keeping the land in its natural state to encourage insect and wildlife as much as possible and are delighted to share their world with guests.
