The Experience
A nice drive up to an impressive archway and into a spacious inner courtyard. The central doors open onto a huge dining room and kitchen – ceilings are high and tall windows allow light to flood in. Delightfully uncluttered, the feel is calm and you’re kept cosy in cooler months with underfloor heating. Relax in the sitting room, fling doors open to the terrace on balmy days and enjoy al fresco meals. You’ll find a barbecue too.
There’s a double bedroom downstairs with its own bathroom and an extra single, and three large doubles up in the attic, with good views and sharing a shower and separate loo. You’ll need to be already intimate with each other as the corridor walls don’t meet at the top – friendly! There’s an extra loo downstairs.
The roomy kitchen is a super spot for everyone to cook together and you’ll find beautiful Limoges crockery, plenty of pots and pans and a good induction hob. Enjoy the rolling lawn and newly planted trees.

Location
The neighbourhood
Léguillac-de-l'Auche is just over a kilometre away and here you'll find a bakery and a simple, rural restaurant. Bigger shops can be found 5km away at Saint-Astier, plus a weekly market and good restaurants – Les Singuliers is recommended by the owners. You'll also find a station with connections. Head to Tocane-Saint-Apre for canoeing on the Dronne, or river swimming.
Local points of interest from Peter Overlack
- The Chartreuse de Fareyroux is one of the early Carthusian monasteries. It was built from 1620 onwards according to a unique plan by a master builder who was in contact with Serlio, the famous Renaissance architect from Italy.
- We are located in the Périgord, relatively far to the west. Périgueux is 20 kilometres away. Saint-Astier is 5 kilometres away. Périgueux has Roman roots. 120 kilometres further west is lively Bordeaux, which also has Roman roots.
- There are so many attractions to tempt you. Cro-Magnon caves, castles, rivers, the beautiful landscape. Historic towns and villages, some of which have been inhabited since Roman times. All connected by tiny, winding country roads.
- Another 40km further is the Atlantic Ocean. Lacanau. Dune du Pilat. Endless kilometres of sandy beaches, empty, clean and wide. Undisturbed swimming, sunbathing, campsites, or even a trip to Bordeaux and day trips to the sea from there.
- Or you can drive east towards Sarlat. To the Périgord Noir. The landscape and architecture are very appealing, with its almost orange-coloured limestone and corresponding buildings.
- Visit Limeuil, Rocamadour, the caves, castles and parks of the region. Paddle on the great rivers of the Dordogne.
