The Experience
Up from the wooded valley to land in a small hamlet… and, behind the high stone wall, La Badoussie, a golden 18th-century home with magnificent views. Enter the gravelled courtyard to find the house on one side and the barn ahead, impeccably linked to form a harmonious whole. There’s a cosy winter sitting room with whitewashed rafters and a splendid fireplace, a summer sitting room with rattan sofas and arched windows opening to the pool, and a big bright kitchen that cooks will love. The style is rustic-elegant, more chic than shabby: neutral colours, open stonework, prints, paintings and furniture painted in creams and greys. For families it’s heaven – badminton, ping pong, children’s swing, heaps of lovely toys and, beyond the planting and the lawns, wild edges falling away to woodland. Friendly neighbours live down the road but there’s no other house in sight. Pop into Daglan (2.5km), for tennis, smart restaurant and small Sunday market, or set off for Cenac, Sarlat, and ‘la vallée des cinq châteaux.’ Then a lap in the pool, a barbecue on the terrace, and beds with sprung mattresses wrapped in fine linen.

What a find! La Badoussie is an amazing house in a beautiful part of France. A home from home for our party of ten which included four granddaughters who loved the heated pool and all the inflatables provided. The pool is regularly maintained and there are ample sunbeds and sturdy sun umbrellas. The house is very comfortable and has all the essentials with plenty of seating inside and outside on the terrace. We were so comfortable that we did little sightseeing! except to Castlenaud and Chateau des Milandes which is a must especially if you are a Josephine Baker fan. We can't wait to return

We had a heavenly week at La Badoussie. The property is idyllically situated in the hills above the pretty village of Daglan, not far from Domme and Sarlat. The house itself is beautifully furnished and incredibly comfortable with excellent facilities. The extensive grounds are beautiful and you have an endlessly wonderful view from the terrace overlooking the pool. Daglan offers a small market on a Sunday morning, along with two restaurants. Belves and the impressive Castelnaud are nearby as are many other chateaux or you can canoe languidly on the river from near Roque Gageac.

For a special family gathering to celebrate our 60th birthday’s, and 35th wedding anniversary, my husband and I were looking for a pretty special property and location. La Badoussie delivered on every level. A stunning farmhouse, beautifully furnished and equipped with absolutely everything we could have needed. The pool was a great size and had loungers and shades in abundance. We were very lucky with the weather, so lovely to come back to in the afternoon after a morning of exploring the many castles and beautiful nearby villages. Colleen - thank you for being such a wonderful host.

La Badoussie is a beautifully appointed villa, stylish, yet homely and is well equipped for both indoor and outdoor activities. Our group consisted of 3 generations and the layout of the property suited us perfectly with plenty of space to be alone or be altogether. The pool was particularly enjoyed; my 3 year old granddaughter loved the inflatable toys provided. The villa is in a quiet rural hamlet, perfectly situated to explore the beautiful Dordogne. So much to see within a short distance. The owners were very helpful and responded quickly to enquiries. You will not be disappointed.

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from David & Colleen Rosser
- The Dordogne is one of the most beautiful areas of France and forms part of the Aquitane region. La Badoussie is set within the Perigord Noir, famed for its history, cuisine, chateaux and stunningly pretty villages.
- The nearby village of Daglan, which once accidentaly discovered by us, became the focus of a search for our holiday house. A short drive (or bike ride for those fit enough to take on the hill) for the daily croissants is a must - as is the weekly market.
- Bike hire within a 10 minute drive in nearby Castlenaud is a regular favourite for the family and guests. A gentle ride along the river is perfect for children of all ages with varying lengths of rides to suit those after more of a challenge.
- Sarlat (20 minutes away) is a must for food lovers and those seeking out the larger markets. There is a lively and cheerful atmosphere and its all set against the background of a beautiful town with exceptional, historical architecture. Not to be missed.
- Domme is one of the most famous Bastides in the region and a one-time base for the Knights Templar. The village is so picturesque that it has become very popular but the stunning panoramas of the Dordogne valley/river are worth it, as are the restaurants!
- And finally, a trip to the area would not be complete without hiring a canoe from one of the many locations on the River Dordogne. Our favourite is to start in Cenac, passing through the stunning Roque Gageac and by numerous chateaux.
